how do i plug in the sync jack into my camera? I use a rebel XT. It says to use the pc connction on my camera. but none of the ports on the side of my XT seem to fit the sync jack. can anyone help me with it?

the rebels dont have a sync cord connection
you can buy one of these things to slide into the hotshoe of the cmaera
heres a link to it, it works on canon cameras, ive tried one before

I have Alien Bees and a D300 Digital Rebel. You have to have a Sync Terminal Adapter that attaches into the hotshoe bracket since the Rebels do not have a pc connection. Here's what you need.

B & H sync terminal adapter

Edit: Oops, too late. Fetor beat me to the punch.

No, you can't get it locally, and don't get the one from Alien Bees. It slides off. Make sure to get the Nikon one that you can twist to tighten it on. B & H ships fairly quikly, so it shouldn't be too long.

So Justin, is this your first time with studio lights? I have had my Alien Bees since May, and I love them! Check out my Portraits folder in my portfolio to see some examples on what they have done for me:

yep, first time with studio strobes. i had continuous lights but they were too hot and it really limited my shooting. so i got one B800 and so far so good. except one of the arms on my brolly box already got bent out of shape. just my luck. i saw your portraits in another thread, they look awesome, wht light mods do you have? i got the 32" brolly and the 20 degree honeycomb.

I imagine any decent camera store will have them.. or something that will do the same job. I was using my Powershot G5 with pc lead connected strobes before I got the dSLR, using a generic brand adaptor that cost about $10(NZ) from a local shop.

Cheers, Me.

I have 1 AB800, 1 AB400, a large softbox (32" x 40"), small softbox, 10 degree grid, 20 degree grid, 2 48" white shoot through umbrellas (one fron Alien Bees & one from Wescott), a 5-in-1 48" reflector disc, and a Vagabond powerpack. Plus numerous lightstands, boom arms, and a portable background system.

I recommend going to some place like Photoflex to get a lot of your accessories. I have one AB umbrella that has a broken piece on it, and my small Photofex softbox is much easier to put together and add different modifiers to than an AB one.

hey thanks to everyone for the replies. i got the adapter and i tried out the lights, and i konw know what x-sync means. the specs on my camera (rebel xt) say it can sync up to 1/200 but i tested it and you can get away with 1/250th. but that's adequate for what i plan on doing anyways. and i now know that i'll probably never need to go over 1/2 the power of my B800, or even 1/4 maybe, because it already packs enough power. but so far i love these lights
