Hello everyone. I have been extremely busy doing model shoots lately. I posted a few before, but I have had 5 shoots since I last posted! Here are some highlights from them. The whole collection can be found at Jeff Zoet's portraits Let me know what you think!

Maggie-Headshot is probably my favourite! Well done! Though I do like 'em on the floor too! :p hehehe

You've got some good shots in there!

Neil, thanks for the input. Anyone else?

i really like the concept of the movie theatre series. the adam anticipation shot and the one of him throwing the popcorn are probably my favourites.

very cool ideas, but it seems to me some of these are just a smidge out of focus on the eyes. i have the same problem and ive noticed its cause i dont like using a tripod and because i keep paying too much attention to other things like the lighting or pose...

Well i looked a bit at theese, and want to start by saying i am a newb!

And then follow with wow, i love theese all of them my favourite is the one she is lying on her back with the hair spread!

Could you mayby tell me a bit on how you did this particular shoot? Avoiding harsh shadows? What lens was used, at what range the photo was taken! Lightning setup and so on! It would be really nice if you did, because it would be educational for me :)

Anyways really nice work!

"Linda on Floor" is my favorite of those shown here.

I find the light reflection in the eyes on the "Maggie headshot" distracting. The circular pattern of lights is unusual and distracts from the model IMHO.

Over all very impressive.

A great collection there.
I love your lighting. seems to be spot on in nearly all photos.
Linda Headshot stands out to me.
The theater series are a great idea & came out well. Maybe a light in the background would have added to the theater effect.
I agree with the comment that some of the shots the eyes don't seem sharp enough. e.g. Maggie in coat, the coat seems to be in focus, but the head not.
Jessica on the flor is great, perhaps a tad too dark in the face.
I like Maggie inthe doorway also.
Nice pose and concept.
Keep up the great portraits. It's a hard area but I think very rewarding.

I really like some of your shots, others I find less stellar because of the ring-flash used and reflected in the models' eyes.

What kind of flash do/did you use when it's not a studio setup, e.g. at the movies?

I personally have the 380EX and have tried out a rented 580EX - WOW!

Thanks for the comment. For the shot of Linda on the floor, I used one Alien Bee 800 with a softbox directly over her. I took the photo with my Digital Rebel and the 18-55mm kit lens that everybody hates so much at a focal length of about 30mm. I was standing on a step stool about a foot and a half off the ground, and I'm about 6' 1". Hope this helps. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

the third is awesome! It really grabs me! I love the back...ish, lighting with the blown highlights. I would like to see burn the door frame a little more but this is great! I love the pose! It really accents her curves and for some reason I can appreciate that!

They are all good, but this just seems to have that little something extra to it!
great job!

edit: how did you get that ring look in her eyes on pic# 228070

As for the ring light, I guess chalk that one up as personal taste. I constructed my own ringlight that is about 2 feet in diameter with the intent of having individual light reflections show up in the model's eyes. I know most ringlights are a solid ring, but this is the look I was going for, and personally, I really like the result.

The lighting at the movies was a couple of Alien Bees. The first three are simply a AB 800 on a large softbox raised all the way up to around 13 feet. I am on a ladder for the first one, and standing on the floor for the other two.

The backlit shot is an AB 400 on a boom arm with a 20 degree grid on it aimed towards the camera.

I saw a great shot made with a ring light made of a ring of flourescent bulbs. Makes an amazing pattern on the eyes. A tast thing though. I like it.

Edit: Pressing post twice makes a double post. Interesting isn't it!

Peter, do you have a link to the image you were describing? I would love to check it out.

No, actually it was in a video of the "No Angels" song was "Daylight in your eyes". I did a quick google search but couldn't find it.
Anyway the setup was 8 or 12 flourescent bulbs in a star & camera shot through the middle. made an excellent light and startling eye effect.

I found the site for this "No Angels" band, but it looks like you need to register to view the videos. Unfortunately, I cannot read the German to decipher what info they need from you. The site is //www.noangels.tv/

Any ideas?

Thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

OK, got off track a little. Anyone else have comments or questions about the photos?
