Does anyone have any books about lighting, particularly studio lighting setup, that they would recommend. I am looking to get in to the technical lighting here, and would like to be able to read up and learn some important things as soon as possible.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

OK. So I found quite a bit of reading material on alienbees.com and have read some of that. Going to read the rest tonight. Now that I have done some of the work on my own, does that qualify me for some input from other users? It'd be great!

I found that there is a whole section on fredmiranda.com devoted to studio lighting and the like. Just so you feel less alone in this process. ;-)

copied from another photography forum im on a lot .... posted by a kid who is movin up in the commercial photography world

"Creative Lighting Techniques ( for Studio Photographers ) — the information applys to out door lighting as well. The Author is Dave Montizambert. The book examples are pretty 90's and may seem cheesy but trust me the information is invaluble. If you understand everything in this book you can light and photograph anything. Also this book gives you instructions on making your own light panels and stuff for cheap. For $30 it's worth it. Books from Rotovision are excellent too, but they don't explain how light works they just show you how to light differnt subjects."

I found some excellent information on Digital Photography on this site:
Shoot Smarter

You will need to register your email address on this site. I have been using it for a few months and there is a ton of information there. I even ordered one of their videos and it explains the digital portrait workflow very well. Don't worry about spamming, I only receive a newsletter once a month. All the information on the site is free!!

Here is the video I purchased:
