I was thinking of geting the 5D, but after reading the specs I'm not sure anymore..

the good things..
it's full frame
it's 12.7 Mpixels
it has 9 focuspoints (love to have the 45 of the EOS1V )

the bad things..
it's only 3fps not 5fps like my 20D
it doesn't have built in flash.. like who uses it anyway ;)
it does not have mirror lockup, I use that alot on my 20D
it dosn't seem to have BULB, I use that alot too.

anyone seen any other flaws with the 5D, or something good that makes it worth buying ?

It's gotta have bulb. I can't imagine this camera does not. That being said, I won't upgrade because I'm an event shooter and it's not fast enough with 3 fps.

it's a FIVE D, not a one D, so it has to have its limitations or else they wouldn't be able to sell it at that price.

Compare the 350D and 20D and you're looking at the same phenomenon.

Just my humble, personal opinion.

It does have Bulb //www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_eos5d.asp
and it does have Mirror Lock-Up - I know this for sure - I just can't find the link right now...

So, the only issues are the slower speed but would the target market be using it for sports or nature shooting? - probably not.

As for the built in flash - what semi-pro or pro uses an inbuilt flash anyway.

As others mentioned, I wouldn't call those flaws...they are limitations imposed by the price and target market.

The 20d is the baby 1dMkII and the 5d is the baby 1dsMkII...I dream about the 1dMkII so I'll upgrade to the 20d first.

If you drool over the 1dsMkII you're more likely to go for the 5d as the intermediate step before you own your dream camera.

for fucks sake!! It's not meant for the bloody sports photographer. Think about studio or landscape shooters! What good is 45p AF, 8fps or built-in flash in those applications?

Sports shooters already have the bloody 1DmkII

Oh, and

Min shutter: 30 sec + Bulb
Self-timer: 10 sec (2 sec with mirror lock-up)

The above specs are from DPReview.com (hands-on review)

This is high on my list for a studio cam. My 20D goes with me everywhere else.

The 5D is a very nice camera. If it had weatherproof body, I would at least think very hard about switching systems. I guess Canon decided to drop weather sealing because of:
1. Cost cutting (there some obvious ones)
2. To distance it more from the 1Ds...

You forgot that it costs £2,500 (UK) that is a major issue for some...
I also miss Environmental sealing, which would have been nice.

I don't know so far from what I read about it, it doesn't seem so spectacular compareing to the 20D, I don't give much on the full frame, the few extra megapixels are good all the rest are drawbacks, 3 fps, no bulb, ... I don't know the full frame alone for me doesn't justify the price difference. And since I already got the 20D I don't find any reason to even think about upgrading. Unless you swim in money and you have a hobby in purchasing every new camera apears on the market.

Bah, technically the 5D is the right idea to replace the 20D/350xt compared to the next "1D" (Mark III?)to be released. Most probably 16 megapixels and all the wissles. d'love to have that...

btw, another good thing about the 5D... 1:1 focal. that's very good.

The 5D is NOT targeted at 20D owners....How often do we have to say that. It's a baby 1Ds II, NOT a sports photog camera. And it has Bulb and mirror lockup. If you want high fps, weather sealing and 45 point AF then get a 1D II

To elaborate on the "bulb" thing, not only does the 5D have bulb, but it's now got it's own spot on the main mode selecton dial, no more having to scroll the shutter speed all the way down to 30s, then "bulb" as on previous cams.
As for mirror lock-up (MLU), the ONLY recent Canon DSLR thad did not have MLU was the original DRebel, and even that you could hack. The 5D does have MLU.
Bottom line, there are a lot of folks that do not see full-frame as an advantage. That is why Canon has the APS-C (1.6-crop cams), and why EF-S lenses are here to stay. The APS-C should not really be thought of as a "cropped" format, it is a different, smaller format camera. When lenses are designed specifically for this format, they can be smaller and lighter. The Canon and Nikon implementations of this format have the advantage of also being able to take lenses intended for the larger 35mm format.

Edit:
BTW, MLU is custom function 12 on the 5D. The only disadvantage here is that, like previous Canon cams, this is not implemented on the main mode dial. For those that use it extensively, that's a disadvantage. For me, it's a very minor annoyance, but nothing more. I'm used to the behavior, but wouldn't mind a change ;-)
