Well, I am alive. I am now living with my in-laws in Baton Rouge. My house is in Slidell, which is on the north side of the Lake. It was hit just as hard as N.O., but of course it will get less TV coverage. But, CNN was there most of the day today.

Luckily, I live north of I-12, which acts as a levee, so my house did not flood (from what I hear - I have not been back yet). I also hear my house is still standing. I have many friends that were not so lucky. The sad thing is that Slidell is where many people live that work in N.O. So if you don't have a N.O., then you won't have a Slidell. Good luck selling my house now...

I work for Lockheed Martin, who builds the External Tank of the Space Shuttle in N.O., and the facility was also supposed to build many components of the next gen space vehicles. So what happens now?

Part of me wishes that my house would have been leveled, so that I could just take the insurance money and start fresh somewhere else.

But I have absolutely no reason to complain. I have a bed, A/C, food. I have what 85% of Mississippi doesn't have.

Man, so many things to think about.

PS: Doug Webb (dswebb) is also from Slidell. I hear his neighborhood may have flooded. I haven't talked to him in a few days, and my prayers are with him, and to all dpc'ers in the area.

amazing. kind of unintelligible for people like me who live far away and have not been apart of something so big, so devastating.

Glad to hear you made it okay. I hope your home is in decent shape. I survived Hurricane Andrew and that was no fun at all. I empathize with you.

Good that you all made it. I wouldn't be so sure the value of your house will drop. It survived what many didn't and Slidel is more then likely going to be a major staging point for the recronstrution of NO. If that happens Slidel will become a boom town over the next five or ten years.

Glad that you made it. We hear so much about those who are trapped or marooned or dead. Sometimes it's nice to hear someone say, "I made it!"

Yeah, hurricanes stink. Two years back, I moved into a house a month before Isabelle hit. Our house was fine, but I remember walking out of my house the new morning, looking at all the trees down, and thinking, Wow. And this was a little one?
