I haven't got an SLR (yet???) but I was wondering what people's fave lens is. Maybe attach a pic and what camera the lens was attached to.

Canon 10-22mm ultra-wide zoom, hands down:

All with Canon 20D

EF-50mm f/1.8 II
Cheap, sharp, compact and fast. it's on my camera 70% of the time.

i second the 50mm/ 1.8. it is my fav lens, and it is rarely off my camera!

This one here. And lots of photos from DPCers to boot.

It;'s incredibly versatile and sits on my camera 90% of the time.

It's my best lens too.

Yep the Canon 50mm 1.8 II is cheap, sharp, clean, small, cheap, fast, light, did I mention it's cheap?

Very difficult question to answer... based on amount of use and quality of results on my 10D, it's a toss-up between the 70-200/2.8 IS and the 24-70/2.8. Both are incredible performers. the 24-70 prolly gets more use, so that would seem to be the tie-breaker.
Re-reading the above paragraph, I feel I'm slighting my Canon 100/2.8 Macro and Canon 15mm fisheye, both of which have earned my highest respect.
It's possible that my fav lens(es) will change with the migration to full-frame... only time will tell.

Tamron 28-75.. though mine isn't a great copy.. but I like the range and the f/2.8.
08/31/2005 04:03:53 PM · #12
for me, it's my Sigma 105mm macro.

08/31/2005 04:04:41 PM · #13
my favorite lenses so far are the 24-135mm f/2.8 - 4.5 by Sigma and my Pentax 50mm f/1.7

Each have their uses, so they each get equal billing on "favorite lens"

Tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4

It's a bit heavy for street stuff really, so add the Sigma 30mm 1.4 for something lighter and for the dark.

180mm F/3.5L Macro, without a doubt. It is not my most often used lens, not even close. But I still love the results from this lens more than any other I have owned.

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is now mounted on my cam most of the time. It's a great focal lengt on DX/APS-C and the f/1.4 allows a lot of dof creativity and low light shooting.

In order of favouriteness:
1) Sigma 30mm f/1.4

2) Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR (technically the best)

3) Nikkor 18-70 DX (tech less perfect, but very good range)

4) Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.4 (too long for me)

My favourite and most used lens is the Canon EF 50/1.4.
It's closely followed by the Canon EF 200/1.8L.

Im with Robert in that I would say it's my Canon 10-22. I just wish it went to 100mm, then I would not need any other lens 99% of the time.

Simple.

The Olympus 50-200mm f2.8-3.5. Fast and sharp.

For low light shooting / inside churches, reception halls, etc:

Sigma 30mm f1.4 or Canon 50mm f1.4?

On your 20D the 50mm is nowhere near wide enough for decent interior coverage. Even the 30mm is marginal as far as wide angle goes. That'd be my choice of the two, though.
