OK, so Olympus usually takes a back seat to Canon and Nikon in these forums, but $539 is quite a deal on a VERY respectable camera, and the Supersonic Wave Filter is a nice feature to have. Just remember the usual Dell caveat of order-early-or-wait-forever.

wow! but if it's an dSLR, it didn't mention if it were a Canon or a Nikon mount?

Neither, Rikki- the Olympus uses Zuiko lenses developed specifically for that camera format. That means you won't have nearly as many choices, but there's plenty to cover most needs. Bear in mind that the Olympus has a 2X crop factor.

my friend had one, sweet cam but noisy as hell after iso 400, he sold it and got a 20d.

Bear in mind that you could buy two of these with lenses for the price of one 20D body.

well yeah, it was an upgrade, he had to take more money out of his pocket obviously. I didn't mean to say they're comparable.

I was actually have it in the shopping cart & about to hit buy, but i don't see any reference to the lens? Does anyone know for sure the lens is included. The only mention of the lens is on dealmac & not dell's site.

Hmm... good point. The lens is pictured, but there's no mention of it in the text. I'm not sure the eVolt is even sold body-only though. It' worth a call to Dell. On the other hand, I noticed that Dell also sells the eVolt bundled with 14-45 and 40-150mm lenses, and both coupon codes still work for a net price of $614.25 (the second discount will appear further down the checkout page). With the second lens selling for $280 at B&H, that's an even BETTER deal. ;-)

In the specs it mentioned focal length of 14-45 so I went ahead and bought it hoping it comes with the lens. The body alone at B&H is about $650 so I figure it was a good deal (THANKS for the tip scalvert!). The deal with both lenses sounds good. I would have probaly gone for it and just sold the telephoto on ebay, but I bought it to use the 50-200.

I'm a 20 year Nikon SLR user and went with the olympus to have a smaller telephoto rig. I was considering the Panasonic DMZ30, but decided to stay SLR for my telephoto work. Check out my plight to lose photographic weight here in an older forum.

It says "with a 14-45 lens in the description". Or am I missing something?? That's always possible, lol.

Wow, that's what I paid for my little P&S.

You will not be dissapointed with the 50-200. It's an excellent lens and users rave about it in the DPReview forums.

That's the DealMac description. I didn't see it in Dell's copy, but "aspherical lens" and "14mm-45mm" ARE listed in the tech specs, so it's included.

I think I'll do it...it'll be a good gift come Christmas.

I looked at the evolt for a long time. its a good camera according to all the reviews and such but has excessive noise above iso 800 so... i guess $500 is a good deal but it depends on why you want an dslr. one of my earlier concerns was noise and speed. but man, that is a good deal.

That's true of the Canon 300D as well... the most popular DSLR on this site by far.

I personally don't understand why people are so worried about noise at higher ISOs. Maybe its out of habit formed by years of shooting velvia (iso 50) & tri-x (iso 100), but I never go higher than the minimum setting except of when I shoot infrared (iso 400). In fact if I could only change one thing about the D70 (my main camera) it would be including a lower ISO like 100 or even better 50.

obviously you don't shoot theatre or night/indoor sports.

So does anyone know if they are the high or low end Zukio lenses? From what I recall, the have an ED and an EZ class, of which the EZ is cheaper and lighter.

Someone should tell BradP about this...he still needs a camera, as far as I know.

I believe the optics are high quality but the build is cheap. Not a professional quality piece of gear that is going to withstand demands of heavy everyday use.

Brad will probably go 20D or higher, even if it means waiting.
