I have an interview tomorrow at noon with a hospital that is only 23 miles from my home. The one I currently work for is 99 miles one way.
Currently I work every Fri-Sun, 12 hour shifts on midnights. Due to the distance, I drive there on Fridays and stay the weekend, then drive home. It was no big deal the first few months, but I have gotten to where I hate working every weekend, and having to be away fom home so much. The new job would be 5 days a week, 8 hrs a day - then home each night. So, wish me luck and keep me in your thought at noon tomorrow (EST)

Best of luck Linda! I feel your pain, I currently commute 104 miles one way, 4 times per week. Done that for 4 years so far. Yuck.

The interview itself has already done one good thing - gave me an excuse to buy a new outfit. Told hubby I really needed it to look my best.
I usually don't get nervous about interviews, but this one has me a bit jittery. It starts out with an aptitude test that takes 90 minutes. Then one guy interviews you and explains the details of the position. After that, the supervisor interviews you. The entire process I was told would take 3 hours. Should have a nice ulcer when I get done.

Good luck Linda. I'm assuming you're going to Mqt General. If they give you grief I know a couple people there, give the word and the interviewers can be "talked to" :)

I feel your commuting pain as well, I live three miles from work. It is much too close. Much. Too. Close.

Edit: Spelling, -2 pts.

Alfresco - I had no idea there was another DPCer who lived so close to me! I live in Champion - actually Humboldt Twp, and my father in law has property in Baraga near Beaufort Lake.
Yes, I am interviewing at Mqt General...right now I'm at OSF St.Francis in Escanaba. Much too far to be driving through the winter as I did last year. Would really like to get into Bell Memorial, but they do not have openings very often.
If you ever want to GTG to shoot some photos let me know. Hubby and i are planning to walk across the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor day - hope to get some cool shots!

Well - I made it through the interview. I felt it went pretty well, but they won;t be making a decision for 2-3 weeks. Ugh. I hate waiting - I'm one of the most impatient people around. This is gonna drive me nuts.

thanks for all the good wishes. I figure the 2-3 week wait now will get me out shooting more pics as I try to burn nervous energy.

Good Luck Shutterpug! My prayer for you is that whoever interviewed you and makes the decision will not be able to get you out of his or her mind, and will find more favor with you than ANYONE else! :)

Be sure to let us know!!

Hopefully they didn't give you too hard a time, a 3 hour interview sounds like such a pleasure :( Good vibes from out west headed your way.

I was at Mqt Gen just last Wednesday for a dose of healing. As a treat for being a good boy I got a tour of the IT facilities; some extremely impressive equipment they have from a geek viewpoint.

I think a Yooper GTG is a capital idea, I'm always up for a photo op. I've never done the bridge walk, I think my fear of man-made heights might kick in. I have no doubt some great photos could come from that though!

Al - the interview ended up lasting only 2 hours. lol The 30 minute test took me about ten minutes. The HR guy was the most nerve racking interviewer. After that was a shorter interview with Dean Jackson Sr. the head of Radiology (seemed like a very personable guy), Sue - I think a senior tech (played the "hard person"), and Tim, another tech who seemed more layed back. The three of them grilled me for about 30 minutes. Dean Jackson said the positions are opening as they are filling other positions within for MRI. Would take a couple weeks to get them in place, then they will let me know if I am going to get one of the created openings or not.

Al, are you into IT? My husband was a CAD guy downstate but got laid off and has not found work in the field since. His experience on the job has been based aroubnd the floundering auto industry, but he does have a lot of personal experience and knowledge in IT. Know anyone he might get work with?
