I was thinking about getting another camera. I have had a few request for weddings, So I will be needing a backup camera shortly. That and every time we go some were my wife uses the D70 and I get to watch. So I am thinking about buying the D100. Does any have any opinions, or suggestions.

Might be cheaper to divorce your wife

I have a D100 and a D70. Except for the faster flash sync of the D70, I still prefer the D100. Color is better and a battery grip is an option, if you want to make your camera more "pro" looking. (esp. for weddings)

I'm waiting for the D200, if there's such a thing coming.

Getting a D100 would honestly be taking a step backwards, technology wise. If you want something cheaper, look at get the D50 for the backup.

I spoke with my Nikon dealer the other day and he said he heard rumors that "something" may be released this fall. D200 maybe?? I hope! =)

I purchased the D100 about 8 weeks ago. I am absolutely thrilled with it. I have researched the camera for about 18 months now and decided on the 100 compared to the 70 because of durability. Metal body compared to composite body.....small difference but I thought it was worth considering. From what I have been reading in some of the other questions that are being asked I am pretty sure I made the right choice. The D70s seem to be having a problem with they are in the 12-16 month period... As for the comment about the 70 having more 'playtoys'... do we really need them????

I have a D100, which I've had since '02, and I just bought a D70s.

I bought the D70s for the same reason you're contemplating... I have a wedding coming up, and I wanted to be sure I have a backup.

The D70s seems to be the result of a couple years of technological improvements, and I'd certainly recommend it over buying a new D100. I still love the D100 and I'll definitely continue to use it in the future, but the D70s is now my main camera.

The D100 was geared a little more toward the "pro-sumer" demographic and has a slightly more durable feel to it, but the D70s gets my vote as the better of the cameras.

As for the previous commenter who mentioned the D70 problems... I like to think that some of the issues they had with the D70 have since been corrected with the D70s. There had been some issues with some weird error messages, etc., but I haven't heard that those problems carried over to the newer of the models. At least that's what I'm hoping! :)

And, as someone else mentioned, the D200 will certainly be a viable option whenever it's slated to come out. I just don't know how far down the road that might be before it actually hits shelves.

Ditto with alansfreed said & we have a very simular cirmstance, except I no longer have the d100 (some @$#$@% burglar threw it across the room & destroyed it). I wish I still had the d100 for macros especially.

The D70 or D70s are better cameras for wedding work because of the superior image pipeline & flash sync speed. Actually with a D70 and a flash, like the old pro's favorite the Vivitar 283, you can flash sync all the way up to 1/8000. Just remember to keep the shutter speed slower than the flash duration of the flash.

If the "pro look" is really needed look at the Fuji S3 Pro. The dynamic range of this camera is also outstanding.

As a side note the "pro look" is not as important as a pro attitude. One of the last film weddings I did was an outdoor affair. I shot it with a Fuji GA645 medium format camera. If you aren't familar with this series of cameras they basically look like big point and shoots. No one judged me because of the camera, and if they did the results are what counts.
