Took this in July on a trip across the country (stopped in Yellowstone for a day and a half). I'm looking to print it for the wall (so no supersaturation out of gamut). I was curious what direction people thought this picture could go. I think it has potential.

BTW, when people ask others to work on a picture, do they give them a 640px version? or if I upload a larger file, can you download it and work on that?

You can do a quick edit on the small 640px web version but to get real nice results the original is much better.

If you have a location to load the original members would then have the option to download it. Or you could email it to them if their email accounts handle large files.

Another crop, pull upwards on the curvers, velvia processing, changed some colors with color mechanic, burned the mountains and sharpened it harder.

Curves adjusted and clip masked (2 differnt layers).
Adjusted colours with selective colour.
Another curves layer for overall contrast.
Reduced saturation.
Sharpened.

edit: some burning on foreground and sky as well.

As always, went to an extreme,
just to see what can be done.

The moon was too centered, so I moved it, added some curve effect and contrast, added some warmth.

Your original is great- none of the "improvements" are better.

Hey, BradP, give me an idea what you did. I like the style and may bring it in that direction.

I did a B&W version like your's Tranquil, but want color on the wall. Looks nice though...

Here's my take...

I kept this "real" with no really extreme processing, but it is still a significant change from the original. I used three curves adjustment layers (overall, sky, foreground) as well as additional dodge/burn in a few select areas. I worked on the moon as a separate selection, applying more USM. I also applied rather significant noise reduction to just the sky (except the moon).
Checked for out-of-gamut in "working CMYK" and adjusted slightly to eliminate virtually all out-of-gamut px (there were some areas in foreground that were out initially).

i used nik Color Efex Pro to achieve this. lots of banding and artifacts from working on a low-res image, though.

lol...i also moved the moon from the center.

Here's my feeble attempt...

Broke it up into layers of sky, not sky, & foreground. Used color sat, sharpness, Neat Image, exposure/backlighting, contrast.

Ya know, I never cease to be amazed at how different one person's interpretation of a single shot can be. If you just look at the rendetions provided by various artists, you see essentially entirely different images. There are some amazingly beautiful renditions of this piece (including the original I might add!). BUT, it just goes to show you that no matter how hard you try to please the masses, you will always be disappointed in some form or fashion by not "reaching" a particular audience. The proper (and only) way to truly succeed with the task is to present it first as you yourself see it.

(Just my 2 cents... - probably 25 cents after tonight - lol)
