I am visiting Prague for the long weekend at the end of August. I am wondering if there are any DPC'ers from Prague to give me some tips as to where to go, what to see, etc...

Well, I'm nto from Prague, but I lived there for a few years some years ago, but that was BC (before camera)
Do the old-town square (staromestsky namesti), esp the Orloj (clock) on the hour. the ppl watching the clock can be more interesting than the clock itself :). Go up the tower, and if you have a fisheye go wild.
Spend one day (and into the night) on the Karluv most (charles bridge), look for the golden pins (11 pairs) in it and the spot where they threw the guy into the river.
Endless photo-ops in the castle (Prazky Hrad) and the Hradcany neighbourhood.
Get lost in the old town, endless alleys and narrow streets there.
However: pay close attn to you camera and gear (and wallet etc) since there are quite a few pickpockets around.
Hope this is not too late
Na zdravi

Also check all the little restaurants and cafe's in the alleys and streets where normally tourists don't come. When I was there it was a) great to see and 'meet' the locals there and b) great photo opportunities.
Unfortunately my ex girlfriend has all the photos.

The Dutch National Geographic Traveler has a Prague special this month, check your magazine dealer if yours has one too. I'm still thinking about St. Petersburg in Russia, Riga or Prague for this fall. Show your pics when you are back!

Seems I came too late to be of any help, but anyway: Oldtown square (Staromestske namesti), Lesser Town (Mala Strana) w/ Charles bridge (Karluv most), Castle and neighbourhood (Hradcany) are certainly beautiful, though too crowded with tourists, unfortunately. The view from National Theater across the river towards the Castle is probably most spectacular.A less typical view of Prague is from Petrin hill (take furnicular from Ujezd, near to Malostranske namesti). Quarters that are less medieval and less touristy, but still quite photogenic, can be Zizkov (check statue on the hill) and Karlin with viaducts. Depends mostly on what are you looking for.

And there is currently an exibition Czech photography 1950 - 2000, sort of Best of, quite inspiring and definitely worth a visit (@ Municipal Library, Marianske namesti, near to Staromestske namesti, side entrance on the left side of the building)

Hope you ('ll) enjoy Prague

Go into the train station if you want some really good candids of some REALLY sketchy people! Just make sure you hold on to your camera very tightly. Also watch out for the cabbies as they tend to screw you over and drive around in circles to bring the bill up. Take a picture of their license and then threaten to report them which should get you some great shots of facial and hand expressions!

I would also suggest going into the Natural History Museum right in the center of the city. I thought it was one of the nicest collections I have seen and was really impressed when I was there.
