All taken in my back yard...the lighting was a little bad, so ISO 400 was used so I could hand-hold. Appreciate any comments.

Thanks!

First of all, you need to know that I dont' consider myself anything great. I've been photographing for nearly 4 decades and I'm blown away by people who are just starting. That said, in order from top left to right bottom:

1. If you wanted to keep this picture, I'd clone out the barren stem.

2. This seems like it would have been better as a portrait rather than a landscape shot. Remember the famous saying: "Location, Location, Location." For you as a photograph it can translate to:

Location A: You and the subject relative to surroundings
Location B: You relative to the subject (angle)
Location C: Your camera & subject relative to the light source.

3. Nice, but what would you do with it? When taking photos, as I look through the view finder, I ask myself: Would I use this as a postcard, a glossy ad, a framed picture, a freeway sign, etc....

4. Its a sharp picture.

5. More interesting than #4. Play with the color saturation & brightness; fade the background and you might have a great postcard cover.

Left some comments. All the pictures have a very nice feel to them. Besides all the, "Elements of Photography", that lens, and you, are producing very nice photos.

I like the cardinal one best - i like how you can see the DOF very clearly defined. all are nice and sharp.

So how do you like the Nikon compared to the Canon? It has taken me about 3500 shots and decent lenses to begin to like my canon alot.

OH...I don't think you want me to answer that...I don't want to start a debate.

Lets' just say in 6 mos. with the rebel, I took roughly 1400 shots. In the last month with the d70 I've taken close to 900 heh...I just can't put it down.

I stand by my decision though -- to go with good glass...I'm loving this lens, it focuses SOOOO fast it's not even funny. I could probably never shoot with 'lesser' glass again.

I am starting to collect quality third party glass. If and when I can afford L glass the 'other' will be my backups. Assuming I do succeed at weddings, i will need backups. The only complaint I hear about third party lenses is that they are slow to focus. I have nothing to compare them to at this point anyway, so i don't feel that i am missing much.

Quality glass does make a difference! Glad to hear you and the D70 have bonded. I am beginning to feel that about my Rebel...i can do some things without much thought (aka distraction).

the shots are nice, nothin special to me, just nice pleasant photographs. as far as that lens yea it is so nice, i wish i had one of my own, bt at least i get to use the newspapers. Put one of those on a d1h or d2h and then youll know what fast focusing is.
