I've got a speck of dust sitting on one of my elements that I can see. I don't know how it got there but I need it gone. I need this lens for tomorrow. I know I can edit out the speck in photoshop but would like to not have to dothis everytime I use this lens. HELP!!!

Do you see the dust on lens directly or is it showing up in the image? If it’s showing up in the image it’s on the sensor.

Does it actually show on any images?. Dust inside the lens shouldn't be a problem since it will be so OOF it won't even show up. Dust on the sensor is a different story.

If you are seeing dust spots in your images, it's likely on the sensor.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I can see it right there on the second piece of glass. when I take shots with this lens it shows up in my photos, but when I switch to a different len , no speck. So I don't think it't the sensor.

Do the test described here. Do it with the lens you suspect, and with another lens. I'm betting the dust patterns on the images are the same.
It's nearly impossible for dust inside a lens to show up, in focus, on a pic. Note I did say "nearly."
I highly doubt that the dust speck in the lens is the problem. Do the sensor dust test, and clean if necessary.

This looks like a pretty informative site about ccd cleaning.

But my question is this: everybody talks about dust on their sensor, but is dust on the mirror ever a problem?
also I have the same situation with dust that is very visible inside the lens. Dang... I hate dust.

I thought it would need to be a pretty serious size piece of dust to show up from the lens?

The mirror just redirects light up to your viewfinder. It flips out of the way when you take a photo, so it has no affect on image quality. Dust inside your lens will decrease contrast by an immeasurably small amount, but it will not show up in a photo because the light inside your lens is too defocused to form an image of the speck.

Front element dust will do nothing really. Now the back elements, that's a different subject all together. Those will be noticeable if big enough and sometimes even when they are small.
