Who is this you, you are talking about? None of your pictures even had 20% of the votes at 8-10.

I think you know as much about math as you do photography 7 10's 7 9's and 19 8's that is 33 out of 256 13%

If your stats were true, you average score would be about 6.9.

First do not start with saying it's a rave because it's a rant for people who did not give the score you thought you should get.

I am sorry , I do not like your shot, I gave you a 4. I did not see the reflection in it when I voted, I see it now. It does not mean that I like the shot more now.

I am not sure that the fact that it was hard to do or that "nobody could have done better than you in that situation" should guarantee the shot a very good score.

And ... I would finish that it's very nice of you to wish us that bad things happen to us ... really .. thank you for that.

I find this whole thread quite humorous... heh :oP

Yeah, dude, your math is WAYYYYYY off. ;-) Go back to school.

The reflection is not at all clear. But I gave it an 8 anyway because I like the focus and I have a thing for crystal clear water droplet shots.

By saying what you said about the low scorers, you come off sounding very unlikable. I recently complained about the same thing in a thread and came off sounding pompous. You however have gone a step farther and wished these people ill will. Think it over. I have accepted the fact that no matter how good your shot is, there will always be low scores. Just look at some of the higher average shots; they all have a certain number of very low scores.

This thread makes my day fun too!

However, I do see a point. In the "reflections" challenge, the top 3 pics recieved several 1`s and 2`s. They did meet the challenge... they were somewhat in focus... they were `better` then the "average" entry... I would like the voters of the 1`s and 2`s to speak up and explane why they voted so low on a pic that at least meets the challege... And explane to us how you vote on a bad entry...

Unfortunately, I hold the statistically unsupported view that these people never read the forums. The find the site, think "cool," vote on one challenge and leave. OR they vote several challenges that way, then fade into the sunset. It is going to happen. The positive thing is that it happens to all of the pictures, so it kinda comes out in the wash.

another thing to remember is that the wide range of scoring simply reflects the fact that art of any kind is subject to subjective opinion... everyone has their own likes and dislikes... it is inevitable that even the most popular works of art, be they photography, paintings, etc.. will always have critics or observers who don't like what they see... and ya know what? there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! everyone has different likes and dislikes... everyone sees things through a different set of eyes... it's part of what makes us human... how boring would it be if we all saw a perfect 10 or a dismal 1...

I actually ran the numbers myself...they are as follows...

Out of the total 2491 votes (votes reflecting the last nine challenges, not including the current). Here are the "stats"
10's - 27
9's - 65
8's - 149

Out of the challenges that I personally voted on, my average vote is 4.375. The Total average vote is 5.0, so I'm not that far off. Noting, that I also only voted 8 of the 9 challenges entered.

Technically, 306 of the 2491 voters voted with an 8 or above.
Making the number of people that voted 7 or below 2185.

You do the math, I'm not taking sides, just stating facts.

That's pretty funny that you think we 'rudely' treated your wishes of ill on us .... . We are not even wishing you the same ... see ?
Wanna come on this side ?
Please join ... but stop theses curses and pompeous statement ... then we can discuss about judging and commenting and other things.

Someone really needs a math lesson, or a hug :):):)

This is what you need to do to get a high score:

Spend about $2000 on a good lighting system or make your own.

Get a blackboard.

Shine the light on it.

Get flowers, teddy bears, glasses, liquid, whatever.

Compose the image so that it doesn't stick out anywhere (i.e rule of thirds, the golden ratio, blah blah blah)

Take your shots, make sure everything looks purrrrtttty and exposed.

Do that for EACH and EVERY challenge. Heck, you can do that for this fchallenge and just call it "The Opposite of Wraith" by using a teddybear with a nice red heart.

See, my next entry to Sins will probably get me a very low score because people will be offended and i haven't put in any nudity. The technical side isn't perfect cuz I didn't spend $3000 on a lighting system or built my own or spent $500 on a good flash + a gel (that's my next expenditure, one of the Canon's nicer flashes and a gel plate for it), part of the image is out of focus on purpose but most people wants nice snapshots, another deduction :)

Focus, I looked at your last challenge and there was no way your results compute. But since you insist on the veracity of your spreadsheet, I had a look at all your challenges and here are my "amalgamated" results for the 9 challenges you have entered:

Score 1, 2, 3 : 454 votes, translates to 18%
Score 4, 5 : 1108 votes, translates to 45%
Score 6, 7: 707 votes, translates to 28%
Score 8, 9, 10: 222 votes, translates to 9%
Total rcvd: 2491 votes, translates to 100%

I don't know where your results came from. Did you forget to turn Num Lock on? :) My goodness, man, I sure hope you don't do your own tax return; you might be overpaying Uncle Sam by a bundle :)

well, okay, never let it be said I am not humble enought to admit a mistake. I went back to see what happened in the spreadsheet. What it did was using the headings (1 through 10) as the values it was calc'ing and not the actual values.

So, here is the rewrite:
01 = 2%
02 = 6%
03 = 10%
04 = 20%
05 = 26%
06 = 17%
07 = 11%
08 = 5%
09 = 2%
10 = 1%

So to the 36% of you that deem my work better than 5, once again, thank you.

To those that so kindly insulted me in this thread, thank you.

To those that brought my error to my attention thank you.

You're still very funny when you try to sound tolerant by still attacking people ...
By the way .. never mind saying something like 'sorry for having wish people bad things'

10/13/2002 12:19:28 AM · #16
I do not see a single attack on you. People were only calling you on something where you were obvisiously in error. Believe me, I edited out an attack myself.

:) Everyone makes mistakes.
Now you got me wondering about my "stats".
Lionelm, I think his way of saying "I take back what I said earlier", was by removing the original post.
He did that very nicely, and I think focus is respectable by doing so. I also think that he'd probably just want this thread to sink into the deep pit of dead threads, so that's all I will say.
I'm going to go figure my stats now. lol

well, I am not going to torture myself over my stats. I am happy when I finish in the top 50%, and I will leave it at that.
