Ok... we had a pretty spectacular storm blow through this weekend and I decided to hang out on the deck and try to take some shots of the lightning as it was blowing in. Problem is.. I couldn't get a good shot. I tried to do a manual shutter and missed the shot every time. I tried to leave the shutter open and either the shots came out over-exposed, under exposed or I got a shot of a nice flash but missed a bolt while the shot was rendering.
Anyone have any pointers to help reduce future frustration?

Do relaxation stretches while building your patience level and remember to breathe deeply.

my way doesn't work for everyone - set the camera to continuous shooting if you are shooting during the day. Long exposure works at night, but during the day try a continuous shot on automatic exposure. I got a nice bolt like this - it took me 90 shots to get 1 useable one, but who cares? Just wait til after one goes, wait a few seconds, then fire like mad at the area they are falling - continuous on my cam locks AE and AF. :)
And do the stretches. :)

I simply set my aperture to the minimum and let it got for a couple of seconds, evetually you catch something. It also help if you aim for the most active part.
