| I was wondering how voters felt about objects that are understood to be circles (frisbee, clock-face, orange slice, etc) but are photographed at an angle. The object then represents an oval or ellipse in the photo, not a cirlce. Should we be picky about this? |

For that matter, I consider a sphere to be circular... it seems that is not a notion widely accepted.

funny. i have no issue whatsoever with a sphere. In a two dimensional environment, it becomes a circle.
I've decided, however, not to be too picky. But my highest ratings will be given to the photos that depict the shape of a circle. |

I didn't mind the angle at all because I know it's a circle. If every photo entered were dead on, I think it would be boring, but that's just my opinion. Mine is and I'm sure I'll get comments that it should be off center or angled. HA HA HA HA

In the same vein, spirals aren't circles either! Nor is anything found in nature a true circle, no matter how hard you look.... am I being too literal?

And personally, I feel that a circle is a circle is a circle, whether it is round, elliptical, or whatever.

For photographic purposes, the sun and the full moon are both perfect circles, and entirely natural... Something like the center of a sunflower is perfectly circular as far as being defined by its major radians is concerned, albeit a somewhat jagged circle around the edge...

| i got a comment something like, "i see a ring [not jewelry] not a circle". isn't a ring a circle? you just can't control others' interpretations, nor can they control yours, so it balances out...i hope :/ |

I pulled out my compass and anything that wasn't a perfect circle got points deducted. If the word circle was in the title I deducted even more points.

Gah! multiple radiants don't make circles either!!! That's a mark down for all fireworks....
Hmmm, I really am being too picky.... must be something to do with the sheer quantity of entrants.

The challenge DID specifically reference a group of objects "defining" a circle...

Now if you guys want to get picky the challange say: "Take a photograph where this basic shape is clearly shown as a key element. This may be a circular object, or a group of items forming a circle."
I guess that means if you show more than one circle you lose.
Now why didn't someone point that out before I started voting? |
