Nope, didn't work. I thought of 6 and a green screwdriver.

7 and a yellow hammer -- why don't these tests ever provide a link to the theory behind them?

Knowing that I disagreed with 1/3 of the test doesn't mean much without knowing what I disagreed with.

Nope = after three tries it failed all three. Didn't get any of the prelim ones right either - it didn't I mean. I got them all right.

OK...the first part didn't work for me (my guesses were 11 and a pink screwdriver) but the crystal ball thing is freaking me out...in 10 tries it was wrong once. How does that work?
07/03/2005 06:24:36 PM · #12
Yea, the crystal ball thing is freaky, I tried it 10 times and is was correct 8. If I just picked a number without doing the math it was wrong 9 out of 10.
07/03/2005 06:26:52 PM · #13
i know how the crystal ball thing works. Any number you do wll be a multiple of 9. Whatever us generated on the little board thing, whatever the symbol the 9 is next to, then thats what the ball will be. The time it messed up...yea you calculated wrong...

The symbols change on every new routine, but all the 9 multiples are the same symbol and of course the answer will always be a multiple of 9.

It worked for me, I think I've seen something like that before, but the crystal ball is the part that has me freaked out, that is wild!

So am I going to be abducted by aliens because I chose 10 and an Orange saw?

b bye

its about how the human mind perceives things.

the crystal ball part was about the rule of probability, where if you paid attention, the same symbol appears on many different numbers, so the probability of it getting correct is high. secondly, the tendency for the 2 digits you thought of, when added together to form a new number, note that most of the time, it gives the same total.

The Crystal Ball is mathematically ALWAYS correct, and if it's "wrong", its actually you that is wrong :P

The first one worked, but I thought of a red shovel -- weird I know, but they said I had to think quick, and that's just what I thought of.

12 and a green pencil

No, the crystal ball trick works by sensing where your mouse is. Most people choose a number, then put their mouse on it without thinking while they calculate the sum and subtract. The Flash game just detects where your mouse was sitting and shows you the symbol that is (number - sum of both digits) below the number that your mouse was sitting on. Try it out, you'll see.

Nope. I chose 10 and an orange spade.

No no no. Konador & RonBeam were right - ANY two digit number that you start with ends up with a multiple of 9, and if you look you'll see that the symbol for multiples of 9 are all the same. As Konador said, if "the ball" got it wrong, then you actually calculated wrong.
