Reffered a friend to this site and just got this message from him:
cindi, everytime I try to go to the dpchallenge site, norton activates and is saying my computer is being attacked by a coockie virus called dpc.. you don't have that? :(
Anyone know anything about it? How to get around it? What it is? I've never heard of such a virus.

Solution: Uninstall Norton and install something else.

| Don't worry, this is no virus. dpchallenge.com uses cookies, which are files that the browser takes and stashes in some folder. And whenever you are on dpchallenge.com it takes that cookie from you and takes a look at it to see if you are registered or not and if you are registered, who you are and other information, like what sites on dpchallenge.com you visited. Norton misinterprets that as a cookie virus (or a tracker), because alot of cookie viruses use these little files to see on what sites on the internet you go to and let the little cookie send the information to somewhere. Ok, my point is.. don't worry. |

As someone who works in the internet security industry, without more information I would agree with pyrotic.

I dunno about viruses, but these cookies look pretty moldy...

idnic, your friend has cookies disabled on her system. She needs to allow the cookies. She can do that in Internet Explorer or whatever browser she is using. Some versions of Norton also have a setting for monitoring cookies. She can either disable this service or add dpchallenge.com to her allow website list.
