I have always wondered how you create a b&w pic with color. The reason i ask is i have seen a few photographs like this one was where a wedding couple were in color but everyone around them and the rest of the photo was B&W.
How is this achieved and what software is used? |

I have used a different method to obtain the same result
Desaturate your complete image
Use the history brush to paint back in the colour in the areas that you want. You may need to zoom in and use a very small brush at times to get the colour details at the b/w colour edges.

I use a similar method to Chris' except I use GIMP and that doesn't have a history brush (I assume this works in Photoshop, too).
1) Duplicate the image to a second layer
2) Convert top layer to black and white
3) Add layer mask to top layer
4) With layer mask selected paint the parts you want to be in color with black (transparent)
This is definately illegal in basic editing, but useful for when there is no one color that can be desaturated to achieve the desired effect.
