Now that is a challenge. I don't know if I'm up to the task but it will be fun to try.

The challenges are getting tougher, aren't they? But I guess I like that. On a personal note I couldn't stand my own submission in the Curves Challenge. Hopefully I'll find something more interesting this week.

This will be a challenge because it could be anything. I think imagination and creativity will play a big part.

I think imagination and creativity will play a big part. It's literally an open subject.

why do you think it's going to be so hard to stop action..

i do that all the time with band photos. tonight i'm going to my friends practice to take my shot.

i'm stoked

I didn't say hard. I said challenging. Anyone can ask a friend to jump as high as he can so you can take a stop action of him/her. The challenge is the creativity, finding the right shot or even subject to satisfy or catch the attention of all the people voting for you in this forum.

yea, totally

that's the main reason i love band photography, because you always have so much that can happen, and so many choices

I did some band photography this past summer... they can be seen here: //www.thelogicmusic.com/photos.htm

The ones i did are labeled "Logic Live" and "Octoberfest 2001". This is where i learned how difficult it is to shoot at night with no flash...

I am struggling for unique ideas for this challenge.. I don't want to do the normal 'stop action' stuff... Maybe i'll be inspired later in the week :)

I'm not going to photograph a motorcycle or bicycle in a sharp turn, no golfers, divers, swimmers, ball tossing, kids on trampolines, sporting events in general, fishing lure casting, fly fising, dominoes falling, ummm... those are just off the top of my head... I"m not saying that they wouldn't be great photos... I am just soul searching for something different....

I ran this idea by my dad today (ex professional product photographer) and he said i should photograph a fan that isn't running ;)

heh, that's the only thing I've thought of so far....and I know my camera is up to it (a fan in motion, that is), I've tried it before, just.....not very interesting subject in my opinion

I got plenty of ideas for the 'Stop Action' challenge. It's going to be difficult to choose one. I guess I'll go with the most creative one. In February I shot some pictures of a musical. If you want you can check them out. This is my favourite one.

I've also shot some basketball games.

When you take the picture, put something in front of the fan that shows that it is really blowing, a streamer, a pretty scarf, a lady with a scarf, a girl with long hair, etc...
Sounds fun!

Heh, times like this I wish I was home for the picture. I have a couple of cool looking model rockets I coulda launched into the stratosphere. I think that a shot of the rocket just as it's leaving the launcher could look pretty cool

I think what an Original stop action shot is supposed to be is something devoid of sports, also I don't see how you can take a picture of a fan and expect that to coun't how the hell am I supposed to tell that its moving? The only thing that can make it a stop motion picture is the essesence that the subject is defying gravity.

I think there could be lots of great stop action pictures that are sports! The idea is to be creative AND stop the action. Sports shots can be VERY original AND creative!!

If you are still looking for ideas of what to take, start thinking of anything that moves, and then think about what would it take to make it a great picture by stopping that motion! The idea is to try it and see what works!

Don't get discouraged, I am really excited by this challenge and hope we get a lot more entries over the weekend.

The only thing? My, my, my. All forces in the universe are directed toward the center of mass of a large body. Interesting concept that I missed in those science classes in which I aparently wasted my time.

Very good stop action. I see these shots everyday in newspapers everywhere. They certainly show stop action. Are they though creative?

I think that the majoriy of originality in a photo comes from what the photographer does with the image. There are all kinds of great photographs that are made from ordinary subject matter. In my opinion this is a common misconception among new photographers as well as some experienced ones. Television commercials use simple and even boring themes and turn them on their head to come up with some very clever and funny ideas. The best ideas come from having an open mind and the willingness to consider any subject matter whether it is common or not.

If those didn't make the cut, then I can't wait to see the one that did.
04/13/2002 04:00:53 PM · #25
i struggled with it and i think one of the cuts is probably a better photo than the one i'm using...
