I came across some of these Close-up lenses while looking through eBay.

I was wondering if anyone has used a Close up lens? How does it work. It looks just like a filter to me. Are they worth it?

Close up lenses can make a big difference in your macro shots, thats for sure. I recently got a canon 250D lens (which I think would work nicely with your camera, if you have the adapter.).

I'll try to post some examples later.

Close up lenses are nifty things. I don't need one with my current camera, but it would be fun to have some magnifying lenses. I also have a magnifying glass that I use. It cost $1 at the toy store!

Here is an example of what closeup lenses and filters can do to enhance your digital experience.

The first shot was taken at the limits of my cameras telephoto macro capabilities... full zoom, macro mode. The second was with a Canon 250D closeup lens attached via a CKC Power filter adapter. (the camera comes with no filter attachment.) Both images were run through photoshop, levels and curves adjusted, resized, applied unsharp mask (300 at .3), and saved as a jpg. No other cropping has been done to these images. (Oh yea, I did deadhead the flower in the second shot : )

As you can see the lens (essentially a high-quality closeup filter set, as it is made-up of two elements) gets me quite a bit closer to the subject. And it does so with no discernable loss of quality.

I'd say closeup filters and lenses are definitely worth checking out!

(Anyone have any experience with wide-angle add-on lenses?)

I have a set of 3 close up filters, I have used them some but they spend more time in the case than on the camera, I forget I have them. They are helpful with macros though.

closeup filters are the best macro bang for the buck out there!

Thats the set i have. I've been very pleased with them too. They're made by SunPak. If you have the A-40 you really need to have closeup lenses since this camera is a pretty weak macro camera without them. I use the +4 all the time.

I have a hoya set for my G3 and usually use them stacked. It allows me to get very close to very small subjects and even with only a 4x optical zoom, fill the frame on full telephoto. The only drawback is at that distance the depth of field is very very shallow and very hard to focus using AF. On manual focus the camera does not allow the macro setting so I can't get as close but does have a MF bracketing feature which does produce a sharp focus. Pros and cons......

Any suggestions regarding getting a better focus on macro shots would be helpful.

I do not know if it's the right place but if anybody is interested, I am selling a CKC adapter for the canon s30, a set of close up lens and a 2x teleconverter that fit on the s30. Since I git the 10D I am still going to use the s30 but not this extra hardware.this taken using the 2X converter and through a window.
