I'm really in the mood for music right now and am looking to empty part of my bank account in itunes, but I need some suggestions of what to download.

To get a better idea of my type of music, these are a few of my favorite bands:

The Postal Service
Modest Mouse
Air
Something Corporate
Say Hi To Your Mom
Five for Fighting
Deathcab
Joshua Radin
Nick Drake
The Shins
Coldplay
Snow Patrol
Arcade Fire
Oasis

So, that's basically my type, but I'm open to new ideas. Suggest away : )

oooh... I've been meaning to check out sterophonics. Do you have any favorites of theirs?

The rest of these are really good. So far I've checked out The Decemberists, Placebo, Refreshments, and Jennifer Marks (she reminds me of Anna Nalick)... I'm liking what I hear so far. Thanks everyone!

You mentioned you listen to coldplay...have you downloaded their single called "Proof?" It's a great one, and I would recommend it.

I would also highly recommend Keane and Muse....oh, and you can't go wrong with U2 either.

Already got Keane (wonderful band), and just started going through some U2.

Alecia introduced me to a band called Blue Merle that sounds more like Coldplay than Coldplay does :)

(If Chris Martin ever kicks off this guy could pull it off and we'd never know the difference)

When I need ideas, I look for new music with this. Gnoosic

My favorite Stereophonics tune is "Dakota". Reminds me of the 80's!
Other than that I don't see:
Train
Dishwalla
Collective Soul
Fuel

Hope that helps!
Cheers....Martin

Just picked up Dakota and So Cold. These are great. I'm going to check out Muse right now

You might also like Papa Roach - Scars

They went mainstream with their new album, not quite the Papa Roach I'm used to anymore.

Travis
Damien Rice (maybe not your style, but check him out)

BTW, nice job liking the Shins. Do you have the Gardenstate soundtrack? AMAZING stuff that is.

I sure do have the Garden State soundtrack. That one is, by far, my favorite CD. Checking out more Travis, and Damien Rice is my style : )

Just picked up Scars by Papa Roach.

And, Nightshy, if you are into The Shins, you should check out Say Hi To Your Mom (My favorites of theirs are Let's Talk About Spaceships, Laundry, and Hooplas Involving Circus Tricks)

Gary Jules, kind of an unknown but very good.

I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
That dreams in which I'm dying
are the best I've ever had.

Familiar with Gary Jules.

Sacha Sacket is great and seems like he'd be your style of music. Also Charlotte Martin, who I always recommend to everyone.

And I agree that the Gardenstate soundtrack is AMAZING. Definitely one of my favorite CDs ever.

Man I feel old... or maybe I live under a rock or something. ;)

I'd say under a very small rock. Most of these bands aren't mainstream.

All of your bands are too new for me. You need some Who and Pink Floyd. Download Tommy and Animals. Light a candle and listen with the lights off.

Some more older stuff:

XTC - Making plans for Nigel and Dear God
Kate Bush - Running up that hill, Don't give up (w/ Peter Gabriel)
Primus
Ween
