you could have been on the set as a still photographer?

I am watching The Machinist right now and I would have loved to have been on this set as a still photographer. The sets, lighting, makeup are so great. Not sure about the movie - a little distrubing, or maybe it is just Bale that is disturbing - but the stills that you could have gotten would be awesome I think.

Have you ever seen Cindy Sherman's "Untitled Film Stills"? Really cool work, and the shots weren't even taken on set, they just "look" like they were taken on a set.

There are a few. On top of the list is 'The Man Who Wasn't There'.

I hate the term "still photographer". Makes it sound like photography has nothing to do with movement. They need to come up with a better term.

My tutor calls himself a 'photographic artist'..which I kinda like.

Not my favorite term either actually, but I wanted to make sure I was clear what I was saying.

The man who wasn't there, yes I can see that. Good for portrait study too.

Thank goodness, someone else saw what I saw;) I've bought the DVD but haven't watched it yet..I know it sounds daft, but I want to hold on to that 'first viewing' feeling for as long as possible - if that makes sense?

I understand. I just saw it for the first time last week on DVD. Wish I'd seen it on the big screen.

I found that when I watched the movie for the first time on DVD...I would pause the movie and just stare at the "still" images for the longest time...the movie has truly left a lasting impression I think will stay with me always.

Ditto;) Thanks Rachel, you've just given me the reason I needed to watch it - this time I can pause it and enjoy it in a different way;)

Stills is my dream job right now in life since filmmaking is what I love. Luckily, I have kind people I know in the industry who have seen some of my stuff (of course they didn't see anything else next to mine, which was lucky for me because if they had, I wouldn't have got the job) and want me to take stills on the set of their major motion picture when production starts next spring. It's not something you can make a career on alone (unless you're brilliant which I am not) but since I'm still young I can do it for a while with little pay.

They shot parts of the new Batman movie in Chicago and some up north where I used to live. One night coming home they were doing the scenes with a helicopter flying over (haven't seen the movie yet so not sure what all was going on) and the next day they were HAND carrying those road barriers that are usually concrete only these were so light two men were carrying them. Wish I could have found a spot to shoot or been involved.

What is Carnivale? A show or a movie? (forgive my ignorance, but I don't recognize the name).
