9 teams will not run unless a chicane is buit. It takes 40 mins to build one and there is 45 mins to go to before the race starts..

what a farce....

sooooo what's a chicane.
06/19/2005 01:29:10 PM · #3
Its a safety issue, Michelin have sxaid that their is a problem with there tyre which could result in a tyre failure so have advised the teams not to race unless the race canbe slowed using a chicane,

7 of the 10 teams use Michelin tyres. 9 teams have agreed to a chicane.
1 team - Farari do not agree to this.

The Machalin runners are currently saying they will not run without a chicane

30 mins to go

So how do you build a curvy road in 40 minutes?

Main teams run on Michelin, only 3 teams use bridgestone...majority win.

However, how many concessions have been made for Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi this season when their tyres haven't performed. So run six cars, fine any Michelin users who doesn't start...they can always run slower!! Either way, end of F1 in USA and mass worldwide coverage will be harmed.

the word "piss up" and "brewery" spring to mind

Most of the teams did NOT want to race in the US anyway...so I think that some people are trying to sabotage the event. as an example consider how poorly it's doing in the states compared to canada, last week here in montreal, there was an estimated 1.5M people that attended the events over the week, and 300 000 that bought tickets for the weekend.... and canada is a small market!

At which track is all this disagreement going on? Watkins Glen?

This is a trick question isn't it? The answer is none, which is why Ferrari haven't been winning races.

The Michelins could have run safely by increasing tyre pressure, but that would have compromised performance and they didn't want to do that.
At the end of the day the blame for this must lie entirely at Michelin's door.

Yup, it's a complete farce. To think I just rushed home from the track to see this joke! I'm less than impressed with the spectators who think it's clever to throw full beer cans at the cars though.

Indy.

WOW

F1 does not have a good reputation in Indy at all. Between this tires this year and the Ferrari descision last year... things don't look good for them, and there are rumors that F1 wants a second race in the U.S. ... I don't think that will happen now anytime soon.

Sounds like Yankee Stadium.

They don't have plastic cups yet in Indiana?

Why on earth are spectators allowed to have beer cans within throwing distance of the race? That's enough to cause the drivers to boycott, and rightfully so.

it's a loooooooooooooooooong tradition at Indy that spectators can bring in their own drinks and food in coolers.

if they every tried to change that, i would think people would find something else to throw instead.

They should have run this as a non-championship race with a chicane just for the sake of the numerous spectators and for the sake of the reputation of F1 in the USA.

As someone just said is this a sport or a business nowadays?

If Schumacher had taken Baricello out on that pit exit debacle it would have been interesting!

I was really looking forward to this race :(

As far as the F1 and the FIA is concerned... it's always been a business.

Yeah, I think they wanted to do a race on the Las Vegas strip...doubt that'll ever happen now though.

They did one in Caesar's Palace car park a few years ago. I can't see them getting a circuit on the Strip!

Sadly enough, the rule is the rule. You can't race with a different tire that you have qualified with and i'd rather pull my car from the race than have my drivers injured or even killed.

My point of view. Formula 1 doesn't need the US market. Finnaly a sport that doesn't bend backward to favor the US.

Open wheel racing never caught on in the USA and the rival series of american base IRL and Champ are dominated by European, Canadian and south american. Just goes to show.
