Ok. My $100 Fujifim automatic digital takes better sunsets than my Digital Rebel! Also having problems with washed out skies. I tried diff white balances, manual and auto modes. Although the rez is much better and for the most part, the overal pics are better, I can't get the WOW effect form the camera eventhough the live sunset may indeed be stunning. I have also tried a 319, an enhancing and a polarizer filter without much improvement. I looked for tutorials but can't find much. I'm sure someone at DPC know a few pointers they wouldn't mind sharing.

Thx in advance.

Can you post your sunset shot with Fujifilm and Rebel both for a comparison?

Do you have Photoshop? Try levels (CTRL-L). If you are unfamiliar with how to use levels try Auto levels (Shift-Ctrl-L) and see what is does.

DSLR pictures do capture a lot of detail, but they often look flat right out of the camera. If you don't have Photoshop, you'll at need some kind of editing program for your photos. Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements or Gimp are low cost alternatives to Photoshop. There are plenty of online guides and hardcopy books for all of these that can help you along.

Ok. I have Elements but I am still learning how to use it. I'll try levels and color enhancements to see if I get what I want. I'll try to upload some pics later tonight and play with the pics a little. Thx.

Try putting 'photoshop elements levels tutorial' into google.
I got plenty of hits.

Here is one for example:

I don’t know if this counts as pop or not but it was taken using my Rebel XT. I metered using partial metering and chose the section between the sun and the horizon to get the exposure that I wanted. I then busted up the contrast a bit in post processing.

Does this pop? I'm not big on my landscapes...

I have had some good results just by dropping the EV down a step or two.

I have a canon 20D, was kinda disappointed with its results until I started using RAW mode.. Makes a world of difference in color preservation.

I don't know if can help to achieve what you're looking for.

I also have a 300d, and I also wanted more bright colors, I usually shoot in the P mode. So I changed in the settings the parameters, they usually come as Adobe RGB, so I used one of the configurable ones.

I haven't tried a lot with RAW. But I have heard what dpakoh says.
