I welcome any suggestions on what would make this photo better

Larger Version

A bit of noise and I ended up tinting my sisters skin a bit red... :(

This is an intriguing pose. Her posture is directing me to look where she is looking, and nothing is there. I think what would make this a better photo is something out at sea where my attention is being directed. The empty ocean and open side of that picture just leads me out of the frame.

My attempt...

I cloned out the people on the beach who were sitting right under her chin, then used the general interest gothic glow action in PS...copied and pasted that into a new layer over the original at 50% opacity, then did some dodging and curves adjustments to lighten the skin a bit. I desaturated the reds by about 10 points and boosted the yellows by 4. I then applied a gaussian blur layer (20 pixels, 20% opacity) to smooth it a bit and enhance the dreamy quality of the pose...she looks like she's waiting for her ship to come in or something like that. ;)

That's what I did...I'm sure you'll get better versions but that was my take on it. I'll remove it in a bit. :o)

Noise Ninja is not free.. this is from their website link that you posted
""Noise Ninja may be downloaded and installed free of charge. However, some features are restricted, and images are watermarked with a grid pattern when you save them, unless you purchase a license.""

Yes I've seen neatimage mentioned here and there I'm using Photoshop CS but I'll give neatimage a try.

And I missed the image Lauriel. I'm very limited in my knowledge of all the PS tools so I'm going through tutorials as I can and trying to work in what I learn as I go.

Also of note It is meant to be her looking out toward the future some unknown thing to come.

Ahhh ok interesting. I'll have to go play with what you did and see what I can come up with. I like the soft glow it has I was trying to USM it but I'll try and soften it up some now.

Thanks a ton Lauriel

If you had chosen a spot without so much green you would have had a much better shot.. the ocean, sky and sand all fit together nicely and your sister stands out from them but then WHAM there's some green stuff right in your face! Other than that go with what's said above.. :)

Here's my take on it... I moved one of the two guys from down by her neck over to an general area in which she is looking, then I erased the other guy. Then I gave the whole image a "soft" look. Then did a little dodge and burn to change the areas of interest. Then played a little with the color in the sky. See what you think:

Hmmm... thumbnail looks "too blurry" but open up the full size and you can see that it's simply soft.

Interesting in moving that one part. It does give you something to look at that way. I've not yet tried to move elements in an image from one part to another.
And I do much like the softer tone rather then the sharpness I was trying to put in it.
