Equalise - yey or nay?
i think we just need a big old yes no check list of what is allowed!

| I'm not exactly sure what this command does, but again, if it's applied to the full image (with no use of selection tools), I can't see why it would be a problem in basic. |

i'm not exactly sure either. i was looking for someting else and hit that instead and it helped. Seems to be like a fill light maybe?

You might want to identify which application your using as well. Not all of us use PS (I use MS Digital Image Suite - along with a very outdated camera, but that's another story!). ;-)

im using photoshop
and heres what they say about equalise
The Equalize command redistributes the brightness values of the pixels in an image so that they more evenly represent the entire range of brightness levels. Equalize remaps pixel values in the composite image so that the brightest value represents white, the darkest value represents black, and intermediate values are evenly distributed throughout the grayscale.text

| This sounds like a quick way to apply an "auto curves" type adjustment. I just messed around with it a bit in a few images. I'll stick to curves - more control. |

it applies to the whole image in one pass. so looks good to me.

Equalize would be legal in basic, if applied to the whole image. Like strangeghost, I don't really see a use for it, unless it just happens to give a pleasing result for a particular photo. Personally, I'll stick with curves.
