Not sure if this topic is 'global' enough or not. I know it
is celebrated in parts of Europe and the US but is it global ?

celebrated in france but in Paris only ...
not global enough I guess.

Some goths and pagans like to celebrate it here, but not by "trick or treating" :). It's more about getting stoned and worshipping the goddess or something.

I live in Wyoming and I don't celebrate it, because of my religous beliefs.

Me too, Sonifo. Maybe instead of Halloween, more of a "harvest theme." I know it is not "harvest" season everywhere, but it might be interesting to see what kind of interpretations would be given.

That would be an interesting challenge.
We don't even harvest here. I guess you could say we harvest coal, but the voters wouldn't get it. I would really have to use my imagination for this one. :)

Fair enough, and a valid point. Since we're on the topic though I'd prefer not to do a Christmas challenge for the same reason.

Yup, an interesting idea, though about 6 months too early for people in the southern hemisphere.

I think Christmas has different beliefs for all of us. I think it would be a fun challenge and a learning exsperience to see the different religous beliefs there are, but if not everyone celebrates it then I guess it shouldnt be a challenge. I can't believe not everyone celebrates.?

Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Pagans and atheists come immediately to mind.

There's only one religion in the world that does, and it's not in the majority...

Well, I was kinda hoping that you knew that (most) Christians celebrate Christmas...

What about thanksgiving? Sorry, that is an American holiday. My favorite of all the holidays. The only excuse to eat as much as I want.

Thanksgiving is a US holiday. Other countries have it but not in the same week.

I don't the Canadians have much to do with it either, It is only
the USA that celebrates that one.

Just because you don't practice a religious holiday, doesn't mean you can't depict it from your point of view.
Or should journalist only photograph/write about the things that are aligned with their religions/nationalities/locations etc.?

I personally don't celebrate Christmas but find it delightful visually, often times.

This is probably why they didn't have an Easter challenge. Not everyone celebrates it. Maybe it would be fun to have a challenge where everyone takes a picture of their favorite holiday in THEIR country. You have to put the holiday name for the title. That is so we know what it is.

I would not take a picture of anything halloween. I have a hard enough time going to the stores. Christmas on the other hand as nothing to do with evil.

I think we could do a Christmas challenge as I think most people would have
'access' to images - this whole wrangle started when I asked about
a hallowe'en challenge and some people said they couldn't do it because
they didn't celebrate it, which was kind of missing the point.

ALthough it seems that Hallowe'en isn ubiquitous enough to be a suitable
challenge, which was sort of what I expected.

We should definitely avoid anything to do with religions because, for example, I know a lot of people who would disagree with this remark AND who consider Halloween to be a joyous religious ceremony.
