has anyone ever used/rented these stabalizers for the camera?
they claim one model can give you 1 second exposures hand held and the model above that claims to have double the stablization!

not too cheap to buy, but not uber expensive either....stablizers

NOT uber expensive you say? The cheapest model is about 1.200$ and then upwards to 3.500$...

Anyway, that is of course a subject of opinion :o), sorry, mean no disrespect. Oh and I have never even heard one of these gizmos, let alone tried one out so helpful advice from me other than I can tell you that I would never spend that kind of money on a stabilizer unless I had so much money I wouldn´t know what to do with them. Tripod for me thank you.

I have seen some handheld DIY stablizers for camcords. Made with about $20-30$ worth of parts from homedepot. They made an L shape with a 2-3lb weight on the arm. Attached right to the standard mouthing screw. I am sure it would work better for a camcorder then a camera.

Gyro stabilizers have been around for quite a while in the film industry, especially. They are quite remarkable. They're also very common with aerial photographers. These are the least expensive examples I've encountered. But even at the relatively small size of these units, that's a hell of a lot of gear to be hauling around on your body, as opposed to when you're in a vehicle of some sort.
