I'd like some input on this photo.
Thanks.

I think it's strong on the emotive side. Portraits of this nature seem to lend themselves to lots of compositional opportunities. This particular view is straight on, which seems to work. I think the exact same pose from a side view would be very strong as well.

The eyes being closed seem to enhance the theme of 'smell' in this photo. The flower seems to be doing a nice job of appealing to Karl's senses...

I think this shot could also be a nice face on shot with the camera rotated 15-30 degrees clockwise as well... just another way to look at it :)

excellent shot...

Eww - dandilions smell bad. Almost a great picture - Some negatives: I think those eyes should be more centered in the frame, or maybe moore off center. Also the fingers seem to steal the show when they are actually the third most important element, they have the sharpest focus and the deepest colors. Find a way to make that flower really draw the attention it nedds. Crop out the fingers? leaving only the fingertips? super saturate the yellow in the flower?

like john said, this picture is extremely emotive...great job in that regard. it is also great on the technical side...focus is good, exposure is good, nice depth of field. like john also said, the framing of the face is where the picture is being held up a bit. i think a perfectly symmetrical or close to it centered face shot would look great and would only add to the emotion. nice shot

KarenB, what a lovely shot! A delight to look at. As already said, it's very emotive. Because it's so close up, you feel being treated to a private moment. You have made enormous progress with portraits.

I like the picture a lot. I prefer lighting that models the subject for more depth. The choice of flower (dandelion) would not be my first choice, but O.K.

I like the picture a lot. I prefer lighting that models the subject more for depth (side lighting, etc.) Also the dandelion would not be
my first choice for a flower. Nice selective focus.

I agree with better centering of the face by cropping on the right side. I'd also try to have sharpest focus on the bridge of the nose rather than the eyebrows. That would focus attention of the viewer there rather than the forehead.

Basically, though, it is a well concieved image..

Great shot Karen. I like everything except the flower choice. I do like the yellow against the skin color. Really stands out. I love the eyes shut and the framing to me is great. But I like things not so perfect.
