Ok, you guys are some of the smartest people I have ever met about digital photos.... I goofed up big time and forgot to format a new card I purchased on vacation.... so guess what ... I can view the photos on the camera but I can't move them ... copy them to the hard drive... the card reader works... I have two other cards that work just fine in it... I have tried some recovery freeware.... pcinspector, zero assumption, etc... but I still have not been able to recover anything.
I did not delete the images... they are visable in the camera (Nikon D70) but not on the card reader or through the camera hook up (Picture Project).... Can anyone help before I pull all my hair out... I have worked on this from about 7-2 am and then from 6 am till now... I would love to rescue these photos. Mary

Wild shot here.
Seeing as you have already tried the software approach, it may be an issue with the file alocation table (FAT) on the card.
I had a corrupted FAT on a card once, and had same problems you are having, and ended up running Windows Checkdisk or Scandisk and repaired the FAT. May have used Norton Utilities - was a long time ago.
Can the D70 output, via A/V cable to a source one at a time?

Just a couple options...

I am not sure what you mean by A/V cable.... I will try the Norton option... Thanks Mary

I don't know whether this might help, but there are USB tools which can copy contents via USB without using a PC. You just connect two devices that can store data (like MP3 players) and send the data from one devoce to the other. Since your camera can still read the pictures, you might be able to transfer them.
Brad's method will be less expensive though.

That would be ScanDisk. Microsoft dropped it somewhere between Win 98 and xp.

If you repair the FAT files, surely you will lose the data??

What size and brand is the card that is giving you problems?

The larger SanDisk cards (512 and up I believe) come packaged with a mini-disk that has a recovery program on it. If memory serves, it's aimed exactly at what you describe. You may be able to download it from their site. Might be worth a try even if it's not a SanDisk card.

The only card avaiable in Apalacholia Florida was Kodak 256 CF. I was afraid it would not work so I asked if I could return it.. it did work in my camera so I bought it at an expensive price .... I will check out what you said about scandisk. Thanks...I am way past the point of frustrated now... I may try later on tonight and let you know how it worked. Mary

I took my card to my daughter's house and would you believe this... it read all but six of the images. I copied them to her computer and then back to a FORMATTED card and then to my computer.... I could not believe her computer read them when mine would not. Wierd these computers! Mary
