i've never done any photography- my base is in using a photocopying machine for fine detail black and white images. obviously that equipment is very restricting! i'm a student (so relativly broke) and don't want to make a bad decision in choosing cameras. what will give me the best up-close/most magnified images without ruining the original details?
(have to admit the camera it states i own is a lie, there was no "no camera" option)

Actually there is a 'no camera option'.
As far as I understand, you're trying to digitize images? How about a flatbed scanner? You can get a used one for less than 50 dollar.

That's not how I read it: it sounds like he wants to move INTO photography with a particular interest in extreme closeups. The question is, how extreme? Any of the "prosumer" slr-like cams like mine or the fuji finepix 7100, whatever, will go real close, like basically 1:1, but not EXTREMELY close, and diopter filters are available to take them even closer.

You can get into the older, 4-5 megapixel versions like mine for under 400 dollars now, maybe a lot less if you can find a used one. This isn't a very good picture, but it will give an idea of what's possible: I could have gone even closer, and that's without an extra diopter lens on the front:
