This was to be my entry for the fauna challenge but after a day trip out i changed my mind at the last minute.

But i`m left wondering what score this may have got.
I`m a terrible judge of my own photos as i nearly didn`t enter my polo`s photo in the candy challenge.

What do you think?

Pretty cool.,, think it would have rated at least a six average. Here is one of mine. My current entry is at 5.5. If you think this one would have done better, I'd like to know. I let my hubby pick out my entry this week, as I haven't been doing a good job finding the right one to enter.

My others are at: (none are similar to my actual entry)

I prefer yours.

I think mine would have averaged about 5, yours nearer 6.

My current entry is at 6.3 so i`m happy.

I loved the colors in this shot with the wings all blurred. I really like the lighting in yours and the intense feeling the brown-reds give it intensifying the color of the spider.

Here's my "2nd choice". My current one is just barely making a 5.0 right now. What do you think?

I'm not sure how to find out how my entry is doing so far... help me? It doesnt seem to be in my profile as (stangely) it doesn't say I've entered (this is my first).

Excellent picture tho marbo btw!

I like that much better than a 5.
I would have voted about 7 and i`m not that generous with my voting either.

Doh! I knew I shouldn't have listened to my sister.

As for checking your score, Mitonski, go to My Preferences under My Home at the top. There is a little box to check to show your score and comments on your homepage. Click it, then your homepage will show your score and how many comments have been made on the left side of the screen. For non members, this is updated every hour, on the hour.

Here are my outtakes.

//photos.yahoo.com/bc/aluminum272002/lst?.dir=/Butterflies&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/

Marbo, I really like your spider shot, but the background is a tad distracting to me.

kandyi the bee picture is nice but it is a bit busy and I can't really see its face.

StevePax the gull shot is quite nice but something seems to be missing for me.

For my shot I picked something completely different at the last minute. It probably won't do as well as one of my outtakes would have but I liked the one I submitted better.

Steve. Like the bird. Would have given a 5 just for the fact that it is flying out of frame. Looks real un-natural and you never want a viewers eye to be directed out of the frame. I am not the biggest rule follower in photography but that is one I follow with wildlife...

For example... (did a little color work also...)

Hope you don't mind. The bird flying into the shot shows more resolve... if your shot was more in frame would have been an 8 from me. You have some great detail in the bird.

Alan,
Go to your preferences page and make sure that 'My Scores' is ticked. You will then be able to see your score on the front page of the site.
Your profile page says you have received 3 comments so you have definitely entered : )

A boring life

That cat looks so sad :(
It pains me to see wild animals caged & looking unhappy. Glad you didn't enter it to be honest.

Dave, nice job with the gull edit. Turns a very nice 7 into an easy 8.
Marbo, I quite like the spider, but the web has no detail which lets it down.
Kandy, again, a nice shot, but says more about flora than fauna to me.

I got way too many outtakes for fauna, but this one I've put up as a print...

I would have given the Spider picture a 7.

I really liked old man of the branch and the ant hive ones. Too bad that fuzzy stuff was in front of the spider.

awesome -- you figured it out - the thumbnail thing .. !

Salmon shot is killer.. great capture. Unique in the challenge.

if u'd had a long enough lens where you didnt have to crop at maximum rez, so it wasnt so grainy, that would be a winner. :)

bod: very pretty.
stevepax: nice, esp with dave's alterations.
marbo: what an ugly bug :)

I didn't enter the fish shot because it was like another one I entered late last fall. The grain came more from level and sat. adjustments than from the crop, although there was tad to begin with.

It took me about 20 minutes of trial and error to get those thumbs with links and the right size. I started out hand-coding html a LONG time ago when Dreamweaver was just a twinkle in someone's brain, so that helped!

Fantastic! Nice macro work and motion capture... must be nice to have that ultra-fast autofocus on the 1D :-)
