if you are gonna give me a LOW SCORE becuase you thought I didn't follow the basic editing rules then I am MAD AT YOU!!!!!!

I got a comment that said exactly that.

You say you LIKE my photo but you are VOTING DOWN because you think I broke the rules?!?!?!? Duuude, ask for a DQ and I'll validate myself! I've got NOTHING to hide! Don't give me a ONE and make my score dip like insanity because you DON't know how to do something that CAN be done within basic editing rules.

AAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Not that I have received such comments, but I totally aggree with you. I've seen the SC say before, vote as if its 100% legal, but if you think its dubious, request validation as well.

Perhaps this should be reinforced somehow?

I feel your pain.

OUCH!!!

See!?

You're right to get mad;)

I suggest that because of the ONE trolls and people who think they are the SC that each entry automatically has at least 3 ones knocked off their score at the end of voting.

I have PM'ed the owner of the comment in question -- they probably had not noticed this part of the rules.

I don't know WHAT has happened today. My score has gone from 5.8992 to 5.4699

I thought I'd break the 6 barrier this time. Oh well.

I guess my photo isn't as good as I thought! LOL

true BUT I already got a score in that area... looking for higher now *wink*

Well, I think your photos are great.
scores are not always a good way to judge quality and imagination.

I always hate to request DQ, if it said ask for validation I would be much more apt to click the button. Its just semantics, but important sematics IMHO.

That's actually a really really good idea.

I'v elong been wanting to change the wording on that... can anyone come up with a wording that meets all of the criteria below?

1. Sounds gentler than "request disqualification"
2. Its function is clear to a new user not already familiar with the site.
3. Fits in about the same space as the current wording.

Thanks,
Terry

What about entries that get less than three ones?

How about "Request rules validation" and an explanation that can be linked.
05/26/2005 10:23:07 PM · #17
I also like the idea of "hedging" against buddies and trolls. Say highest and lowest score are automatically dropped???
05/26/2005 10:24:01 PM · #18
Recommend validation for this photograph.

and when they click it they'll still see a link to the rules like now.

hmmm good point. but we should try to think of something for the trolls. there are photos that get ones that SO do not deserve it

Beat me to it...

If you are going to throw out 3 ones because we think their trolls than we need to throw out 3 tens because of the good sams...

does the SC keep track of how people vote? ie: a person who constantly votes low, are they maybe booted from membership or something??

When a Site Council members looks at your comments made or received (via your profile), we see all comments you have made or received, including those on voting-phase and disqualified entries (color-coded green and red, respectively). This was added around the same time as anonymous commenting, to help us research abuse of the feature, but comes in handy for situations like this as well.

with the comment can you see the vote that person made? Not to be totally a pain in the ass but I'd love to know if said commenter DID give me a one.
