As a spokes person for A.D.D., every time I check onto DP to see how scoring is going, I stop and vote for a few more images (while waiting for my score to magically jump to 9!!!). By the time a contest ends I could easily have voted for 90% of the submissions.

I am curious about every one else - what percentage of images do you normally vote for during a contest?

I try to comment more then vote. I don't always get a lot of time to sit infront of a computer and usually check my score VIA PDA on the road. I feel that commenting is a little more important then always voting. I also try to vote mostly on challenges I haven't entered.

I also normally vote 100%, whether I've entered or not, unless time restrictions interfere.

I try to vote on as many challenges as I have time for. The only constrait I put on myself is that I must complete voting on all images before the dealine and not to leave challenges half voted on!

Same here. I've voted on every entry I could since I've been a user/member *(almost 6000 votes). Alot of comments. I've never given anyone a "1" and only 5 "2"s.
05/26/2005 09:59:42 AM · #11
I vote 100% also.

100% vote and comment at least on the photos I gave bad scores to.
05/26/2005 10:01:25 AM · #13

I vote for all entries in a challenge in 1 sitting, no matter how many, until my brain is fried and my eyes are bleeding. But it's all worth it; DPC forever!!!

That's a nice way to go. So atleast you offer improvement advice where its needed. I like that. I think far too often people only comment on the good ones, what good is "Nice image!" or "Good Job"?.

I go by the rule: do to others what you'd like them to do to you. Or however that's worded.

I feel like if you give a bad score, you should explain why. I also comment on the good and average photos if I have time. But I make a point to at least comment on the "needs a lot of improvement" photos

I think i will adapt this ideology
When i enter a challenge i hate getting very little comments independently of the score

I vote 100% of the challenges that I enter.
I sparatically vote on other challenges but when I do vote on a
challenge I vote on 100% of the images.

I vote only on stuff I enter. I comment on stuff that needs help. The good stuff I just give a number.

wow! You all must spend quite a bit of time going through all the entries. I'll admit, I don't vote on everything, and comment on even less. I try to vote on as many as I can find time for, and feel like I already spend a lot of hours on DPC.

I look at each photo, and try to decide what I like and don't like that makes me vote the way I do, and assuming I can come up with some specifics, I'll comment on those. Sure, sometimes it's the "not that useful" good job, etc... But, often I'll have some other comment as to what I liked or didn't in there as well. The ones that I can't really determine what it is, or that I just don't find that exciting (but can't really pinpoint a specific area for improvement) are the ones I don't always comment on.

I am pretty new here and to photography in general...so maybe as I gain experience I'll be able to better convey my impressions, and do it more quickly.

100%. And I've been trying to comment a lot more lately also.
05/26/2005 10:59:12 AM · #23
When I vote it is always 100%

my votes average around 5 or 6.. A few people get 8s,9s, 10s, and a few people get 1s, 2s, and 3s. If someone obviously took great thought into the contest and it shows I'll give them a high score. if the person looks like they submitted to the wrong contest ;-) I give them a low score.. The 50th image of the same thing will of course get the mediocre score.. Taking into consideration quality of the post too.

The granular challenge to make a good example of.. People using beach scenes in a great detail may get a higher score.. People taking pictures of the pile of sugar, all 200 of you, get the mid range scores. And the people taking pictures of stones or pebbles, that really don't fall into the grain/granular category, get the low scores.

I generally go through 80-100% of the people in the contest, depending on the size of the entries and my available time.

If I can't take the time to vote 100%, I won't vote. I don't think it's fair to some if they get a vote and others don't.
