My friend and I have been doing a lot of sports photography over the past few months and every now and then the air turns blue as after a shot, the autofocus points in the viewfinder of my friend`s D70 seem to change priority from centre focus to one of the outer focussing points.
He`s fairly inexperienced, having only had the camera for a couple of months, but as far as I`m aware he is not doing anything to cause this change and indeed, has to reset the focussing point back to centre priority (which I believe is default on the D70?)
Not being a Nikon owner, I`m unable to offer advice to him, but thought there may be someone on this site who knows what may be causing this.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

If he wants to keep it centered he should put it in the center and lock the focus point with the little knob next to L (just above the wastebin button). Plus make sure the AF area menu setting (03) is "single area". I think that should do it
If you don't lock it with the knob the point can be accidentily shifted by pushing the 4way button.

| Yep. Look for which of the 5 focus points is bold and darkened. That's the selected focus point. |

| I'll second that motion! It's quite easy on my D100 to accidentally bump the rocker button and accidentally change the focus area. Activating that little lock switch makes all the difference! |

I also know someone (looks at Kavey) who is quite adept at managing to knock that little lock switch OFF and then shift the focus point without realising.
It's one of the few areas that Nikon haven't got the ergonomics of the D70 right, IMO.

And just how do you change that darkened area? I would like to change mine to the upper one but I can't seem to figure it out.... |

| press the shutter half way and at the same time use the 4 way to move the focus area, thats how i do it |
