After a quick run through the thumbnails and a few photos, all I can say is WOW!
Great job people! One of the best collections of photos I've seen in a long time. I thought I had a good one, but don't know how it'll hold up against these great entries.
Have I said WOW yet? ~~WOW~~

Wow indeed. Gonna take something special to ribbon this challenge, score-wise. I'm predicting my highest or second-highest score to date, and not even top 10 LOL. Prove me wrong!

| Just had a quick scan through and have to say with a couple of exceptions(always are some) The competition is very strong indeed, wont be much in it at the top, just hope mine will be up there with them. |

But, yeah WOW would but be a great word for it, what a great contest, this will be super fun to vote for. I really have about 20 that could be in the top 3.

I didn't, mine made me the angriest I've been on a specific shoot. Not because I didn't get the shot I wanted but because of the emotions it drew out.

This has actually been the most frustrating challenge for me to score so far. It's full of beautiful images, but a whole lot of them are not silhouettes at all. Lots of reflections, dark images and pictures with some degree of backlighting, but many of those are not silhouettes.
I'm usually very lenient about challenge topics and rate pictures more on quality than meeting the challenge, but this one has been difficult for me since the challenge description was so clearly spelled out. Am I the one who's not understanding the challenge here? Seriously, I'd like to know if I'm getting this wrong.

It seems this way to me, too. Lots of the pictures are very artistic and have really interesting lighting but they aren't silhouettes. Some of them are shadows, some are profiles and some are just darkish pictures. By definition a silhouette is a solid colored outline of something with very little or no detail showing in the subject. |

Define "very little" :P
Mine's a darkish profile with interesting lighting and very little detail. It was either that or YAFS (Yet Another ....... Sunset!). |

A definition of a silhouette I found to be quite clear is this one:
"A silhouette is defined as an outline of something that appears dark against a lighter background. This usually occurs by exposing for the background, which underexposes the subject and produces a silhouette. Some silhouettes completely erase discernible detail in the subject, while some allow small areas of detail around the edges of the subject to maintain depth."

| I wonder if the the truly picky people vote early in the morning? :) I sure hope so. I thought mine was pretty good, and I think it stands up to a lot that are out there, but I'm at a 4.1, and one person commented: Not very interesting. Hopefully more DPCers will find it interesting. :) |

I'm trying to use that definition too, g2bad, and to give as much leeway as possible. Even though it seems there are more pictures than normal that don't meet this particular challenge, there are still a ton of them that fit the definition perfectly and are absolutely stunning.

and some of them are absolutely hillarious. as with most challenges, there is some really excellent work in there. |

Well looks like my average vote cast is aout to take a pretty big climb up. I only went through about 25 images and already I can tell this one going to score big. Thanks everyone for sharing and giving us voters a challenge we can realy enjoy voting on.

I was telling my husband how excited i was to see the photos for this challenge.silhouette photos are one of my fav things to photograph( and water is the other). althought i cant vote(yet) i will be viewing the photos and trying to make as many comments as i can but i have a feeling that alot will be just a plain ole wow! Really great shots posted!

The entry into the silhouette challenge is indeed very strong. Following my usual criteria for scoring, I have scored more 7-10 rated pictures than any other challenge I've scored so far. I thought my shot was going to do really well, but the competition is going to be very tough. Well done all you entrants, great shows of vision and skill!

I reviewed the first Silhouette challenge entries after making my submission (I didn't want to be influenced) and was totally surprised and delighted at the entries. Now, after voting on these, all I can say is you people outdid yourselves - there are a lot of fantastic pics in this challenge.
On the other side of that though, although they are great pics, lots are just not silhouettes.
