I've taken these two photos of one of the most photographed buildings in Austin ( I think the capitol building might get more shots).
Please let me know which one you like better (or if you don't like either what could I have done to make you like them), both technically and artistically.

From a quick look, I think I like the second(horizontal) picture the best. The first one definitly has more of a focus on the tower, which is somewhat lost in the second. The second seems to have more focus on the fountain. So I guess it comes down to what you want the picture to be for :) |

It looks to me like you over sharpened. Is that possible? I noticed what looks like that in the tree tops. |

OMG. I just looked at it now in 640 pixel version... It's ugly. I'll fix it promptly. |

is this the same tower that some sniper took out students and faculty back in the 60's?

I used to work in that tower!
I think those pictures are well-composed, but earlier in the day, the fountains are off, which makes for cool reflections.
