I really like this shot, didnt have much time to take it as he was diving at me when I shot it...what do you think?

I love that shot, did he want your lunch or something? So crisp and the detail is great. Just a shame that his wing is just outta the shot a little. Don't know whether or not I would be tempted to tilt it a little to the right or not though!

I have been shooting a few birds in flight over the last couple of weeks myself since getting a lower budget Zoom lens. Here's two of these.

Good capture of the seagull. Nice front to the building in the background.

The flagpole and flag are a distraction because they do not contribute in a direct way to the overall image. They are like a subplot in a novel that the author fails to develope. It would take some time but the image would be better if the flag and pole were cloned out. You might also consider croping to make the gull wings span the full diagonal of the frame.

Glad you liked the landing shot enough to select as a favourite, it put a huge smile on my face :0) Basically I had the idea of testing out my new lens on this subject and enjoyed it so much that I went back a couple of time ( the best ones were from the first attempt funny enough as posted ), my intention is to go to a falconry display to try and get some amazing shots of interesting birds.

My favourite shot of a bird that I have seen on this site has to be this one below taken by Jon Lucas of London, truly fantastic picture that I have had in my favourites for some time.

Great shot of the gull.

I have not gotten one in flight yet that I really like, but did take one last week of a gull perched on a post.

I think your gull picture is pretty cool. The building in the background makes it a lot more interesting. My guess is that it is a ring-billed gull but I am not gull expert so it is nothing more than a guess.

Corwyn, I like the merganser. We usually get them down here in the winter and I always get excited when I see them. It is especially neat to see them flying.

Here is a bird picture that I took yesterday:

Wing is easy to fix - increase canvas height, copy a piece off the other wingtip, paste in on a new layer, mirror, rotate, nudge it into place, then clone some sky and some of the building.

Nice shot, Bob!
