adobe.com says that support for the xt will be coming "in may" not sure what date that means, but until now... just wait it out. They also say that it will only work for cs2. so i will have to think of something for my cs1. upgrade I guess, but I didn't want to.

I thought that CS2 with camera raw 3.0 would handle canon rebel xt cr2 files; no?

This business with not updating the RAW converter for CS is just not good customer relations. They're behind on support for mainstream cams that are already released, and not planning on supporting them at all for CS. It really cheeses me off that essentially they are finding ways to force us to upgrade, and at the same time are accelerating the upgrade cycle. Essentially, they just want another $150 from all their users every year.
I've half a mind to decline the upgrade to CS2, and invest the money in another RAW converter instead.

I've half a mind, and that's exactly what my office is doing. There is nothing in CS2 compelling enough for me to upgrade.

Bibble already supports CR2, and can be used as a plugin for CS.

(And it's got great workflow.) My only issue is that they seem slow to work out the "exit" (crashing) type bugs. As much as I like it, I don't have or know of any program that crashes as often.

RawShooter essentials also supports CR2 files. And I've been very impressed with this free, beta software. It doesn't have curves adjustment (Bibble does.), but the controls they provide seem to give you as much control, perhaps easier. The noise reduction seems second to none that I've used. (And it crashes less than Bibble). My issue with it is that it doesn't support cropping or rotate (the paid version will have those features, as I understand it, the free one won't). We'll have to see how much they want for the paid version, but right now, the free version gives you a lot!

It appears that both Nikon and Canon and Adobe, are positioning themselves to profit from the Raw format marketing issues. We now know that Nikon is fighting Adobe on the future of RAW conversions. And Adobe is fighting Canon on upgrading future camera models on RAW format software conversions. So again, the consumer does not win.

CS2 is limited in its new features, and if it does not include RAW format conversionsf or upcoming camera units, then its use is even more limited.

CS2 will provide future updates for the RAW converter, but those updates are not applicable to or usable by CS.

I do all my raw editing with the canon software DPP (digital photo pro) I love it because you can save your setings and apply them to batches of photos, then If you need further editing after converting to jpg use Photoshop CS. Sounds like extra trouble but it really isnt.

Thanks

Not really the end of the world of course. Adobe's DNG converter will be updated and DNG files are supported with CS's raw plugin.

True, I guess a guy could run a batch conversion to DNG prior to using the file browser in CS... a bit of a hassle tho.
