I took some time off from bird shots to take some prom pictures. The weather wasn't the best as it was overcast so they are kind of dark. Any comments are always welcome.

See what you think of these edits....

Before:, After:

Before:, After:

I played around with blurring and burning the background a bit, dodging the people, and then adding a bit of color on top (giving the brownish overtone).

How about this collage idea...

(sorry, I needed something to play with tonight and your pictures came in handy!)

The orginals look much better than the edits.

I agree with gwphoto I'm not fond of the edits.
Left some comments a couple of the shots.

I like the sepia, but think they were brightened a little too much (but not by a lot). As for the originals. yes, they are dark, when You lighten them up see if you can change the color of the water in the background, it looks kind of gross. As for the overall pictures....I loved it (too bad they were so dark).

I think you need a new monitor. The orginals look great on my monitor.

LOL, Well, I probably do need a new monitor now that you mention it, but I was defending the sepia as a viable alternative. I liked the originals too.

Here's some feedback from a person who knows very little about portrait photography...

1. The water has a muddy color to it which, IMO, doesn't look good at all.

2. The gray sky doesn't work well either. I would try to crop that out.

3. This looks like a great location for a photoshoot, but in my uninformed opinion, it may not be a great setting for prom photos.

4. The exposures look good.

I agree with you statement about not knowing much about portrait photography. I still think the photos look great the way they are.

Well, unfortunately mine did. The unfortunate part is that the green stuff my date & I were rolling around in was poison ivy!

This is a bit off topic, but I wanted to say thanks for the framing idea. I tend to like a nice, tight crop. But your first sample pic is great and has given me a new thought to play with.
