I have a picture i would like to submit for the 'night' challenge. When i view the image on my computer the color is perfect but when i viewed the same photo on my friends computer it was quite dark and the image didnt look quite right....is this because i have an x-bright screen? and if I sumbmit this photo will everyone else see the picture in the same colors as mine, or darker? I just want to make sure everyone sees my image the way I do...otherwise it will get poor ratings.

Unfortunately, everyone's monitor is different. The best you can do is make sure your monitor is calibrated and hope for the best.

Mac or Windows? Also, that's only the gamma setting.

One of many threads on calibration:

does any one know of any web sites that are simple to use that can aid me in calibrating my monitor correctly?

You can use PS to see the actual values in the image - so you can check the histogram to see if all the values are there and then check the values in teh darkest and lightest parts of the image.

You could take a test shot and show us and we'll give you some feedback.
Go vote on a pic - at the bottom of the page is a gray bar - you should be able to distinguish all the variations.

6 or 7 months ago there was a lot of discussion here about monitor calibration. Before that i saw a lot of dark images in teh challenges, but much fewer since then. Leads to believe monitor issues are common.
