Maybe its just me, but the owl and the vulture look like the same pictures...people must love birds around here.

Owl? I've no idea how you can say that those two look like the same picture ... but I did wonder if i should have put a bird in my tree ...

Almost the same, the Hawk has a tighter crop.

Well....some people love bird photos, some people like bird photos, and some don't like them at all, but still, these are great photos worthy of being in National Geographic, they aren't just snapshots.

I dont think the fact that they are both birds has anything to do with it, look at the pictures they are both fantastic photos and deserve the places that they got. Well done.

Same bird shot by the same person and submitted as different users? :)

I think it's because they cheated.

I agree. I will seek DQ request now. And I see some other, suspicious, similarities in the 31 following photos, too.

You're right you know - and have you noticed the amazing similarity with the 1st and 3rd in People II (you know, faces - looking at camera - eyes - heads)- and even more stunningly, blindingly crazy, all 3 winners in the Abandoned Buildings challenge (buildings - landscapes - erm, old and stuff). This is nuts! Everyone's copying everyone else and it's gone all identically the same twin-like. Nutty loopy bananas - there's not even any difference and no one's noticed except you. Brilliant!

To add to the suspicion, all I know is that I never see the Vulture and the Hawk together in the same place. You do the math.

LOL

I guess if the bird in my picture had looked more menacing, it would have come in third place....

But I'm happy - my second score over 6 (after my Rubber Duckie photo.)

On a more serious note, there's some primordially fascinating about a vicious-type bird staring you right in the eyeballs. I think most of us have a visceral response to images like that, and a visceral response translates into votes. Very powerful images, both totally deserving of ribbons, although for my money the vulture's otherworldly and the hawk's just a very fine shot... There's somethign about that vulture that makes me want to scream. Ravens can do the trick too :-)

Robt.

If either of those top two bird shots is DQ'ed, I think another bird shot should be elevated to take it's place.
