Heading out to a friend's for a BBQ, northland weather permitting LOL. Hope to try out some ideas for Minimalism challenge.

Not sure if I'm going to be able to wake at dawn.......slept through the alarm for work this morning so dawn may be a bit of an impossible mission!!!! (I'm sure that sleeping in had nothing to do with the fact I was at dpc until the wee hours!)

My ANZAC day as planned so far...

05:30-07:30 Dawn parade, Burnham army camp.
07:30-08:00 Drive to Darfield...
08:00-09:30 Darfield Wreath laying ceremony, and service & trinity church.
09:30-10:00 Drive back to Leeston, stop off at Dunsandle for pic of the honour gaurds on the district memorial there.
10:00-11:30 Leeston service followed by parade to cenotaph & wreath laying.
11:30- Sleep, edit photos, pick proofs, send to papers.. Pray I get a front page!!

And my friends say I need to get out more! :-).

Cheers, Me.

Do Girl Guides still sell biscuits on ANZAC Day? Just something I vaguely remember about that day... and the poppies of course :)

nope no girl guide bikkies. :( Sounds like i am missing out. Are the like ANZAC cookies?
04/22/2005 06:34:42 AM · #13
Nope, nothing like Anzac's. Believe it or not they were originally fairly plain sweet bikkies, bit like a shortbread but not as rich, with the girl guide symbol pressed into them.

Packaged up and sent out to the guides to sell for fundraising. Each guide would get a box and have to pursuade (blackmail) family/friends to buy them LOL .......'if you don't buy them we won't win the top award for the area' Last couple of years they've had a minor revolution and introduced chocolate covered ones and little mini's. Most popular though ....still the originals. For some reason, they should be boring but they taste really great!!!!!

I'm hoping to get along to this over the weekend. Probably Sunday as thats really the only day I have free. There is also a photographic exhibition at the art gallery in Auckland that I want to try to get along too.

man I miss Girl Guide biscuits, they don't have them here in Australia
my sister was in the guides and we used to get a full box (24 something packets) every year and they would last about 3 months... it's one of the thing I miss about New Zealand
ANZAC Day... the wife is taking the kids up too her friends at Nelsons bay for the day and I'll be at home doing my tax :(
and hopefully getting out to take some Photos

We should have an ANZAC challenge. Photos from parades etc.

Folks from countries outside NZ/AUS can enter as long as the picture is of an ANZAC parade, or features a girl guide bikkie. :-).

(I've already finished our GG bikkies for the year, might have to track down someone who didn't sell their boxes...)

Cheers, Me.

If there is an ANZAC Challenge, I think I will be more advantageus. I can go to Gallipoli (3 Hours to Istanbul) and can have fantastic pictures during the ceremonies.

I agree with lentil, that's an unfair advantage. :-).

That is one thing I'd love to do one day, I have relatives who died there, as I imagine you do if you're a native turk, but not this year....

It's looking a bit grim for the dawn parade here this year as well... It's hailing outside, and we've just had a huge thunder & lightening storm. It's looking like being a cold 5am start!

Cheers, Me.
