Next fall I am studying abroad in Galway, Ireland. I am looking to upgrade to a higher quality lens, but also to replace the two crappy lenses I have right now. Being a poor college student I am only looking to spend about $250-$300 on a new lens or possibly a bit more depending on how much I can sell my other two lenses for. I'm looking for any suggestions that would fit into this price range. I would like it to approximately cover the distances of my other two lenses. The two lenses I am looking to replace are:
-Canon EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6
-Tamron AF28-105MM F/4-5.6 (IF)

any suggestions???

Keep the 18-55.

Then decide if you want something in the 70-300 range.

Galway is wonderful. Plan time for the Conemara Coast. The Cliffs of Moer are not too far of a drive a bit south (between Galway and Shannon).

Enjoy your time.

I was wondering what the best mid-range zoom I could get for around $300 more specifically. I was thinking along the lines of something like a 28-105mm. Does anyone have any opinion on what brand will offer the best quality for this amount of money?

I personally would recomend this:Lens at BH

It's a little pricey, but it's optically incredible, and just about the least you'll ever pay for L glass

I'll second that. it is a great lens, and you will look really cool walking around with that white lens. If you can get the extra moolah, I reccomend this lens. I love mine, it really made me realize just how good L glass is. Now I want many, many more.

keep your canon lens.

keep in mind what you are after and find the lens of choice from your goals.

make sure to do homework. the faster the lens, the better for you in edit mode.
