I just bought my Mavica CD400 (4 megapixels) about 6 weeks ago. Today, I found out that in just a few weeks, Sony will be releasing the Mavica CD500 (5 megapixels) and it isn't going to go up in price (on the sony website, both are the same price). I love the mavica because of the CD storage. I guess it's like buying a computer--once you get it out of the box, bigger and better gets cheaper and cheaper.

It seems incredible to me that it can write to a CD while being shaken about as a camera often is -- just a short time ago your CD might not write if a plane flew too low over your building...I'm curious to know what your experience is.
Can you also hook it up to your computer and use it as a CD burner to back up data?

I can't offer lots and lots of experience, Paul, but the Mavicas do a great job. My dad has one of the CD based cameras and he hasn't lost any images due to write problems (that I'm aware of). The few times I've shot with it, I didn't even think about holding the camera still while it was writing and the images were fine. As far as I know, the only time holding the camera still is important is when you first "format" each CD.

I have a Mavica, I bought it like 3 years ago. I like the zoom it has, 14X, the problem is the storage, it uses floppy and it seems that I cant use the floppy adapter, I dont like the .7 mega pix of resolution, but it worked for me for a while, it was a point and shoot. After 2 months I bought it, there were better cameras from sony, I think that the problem with sony is that, they launch a new product and the life of this is about 1 year, because even the support is no longer available.
