Does "Bored" mean anything else then like "having nothing to do" ? I have seen some strange photos in the "bored" challange. Like water drops, flowers and horses etc.

English is not my native language as you might have guessed.

No, bored is bored. There were just a lot of people who didn't hit the mark on this one. I think they had the idea in their head, it just didn't translate into the finished photos.

I agree, bored is bored.
However...there is the word "board" which can refer to playing boards such as those used for chess and other games. Some people play games out of boredom...not I, though, I play games because they're interesting.

Edit: Forgot to say that "bored" and "board" sound exactly the same in English.

Bored has at least a couple of meanings:

1. To make weary by being dull, repetitive, or tedious: The movie bored us.

2. To make a hole in or through, with or as if with a drill.

Using both meanings in one sentence, throwing in the other board for fun!

He bored through the board with a drill because he was bored.

2Shay,
True there are other meanings of "bored"--but, for the purposes of the challenged, those meanings stretch the definition. Especially since the description directed to "depict boredom." (One does not say that the board in which holes have been bored is in a state of boredom--that state belongs to the person who bored the holes in the board.)

Then this is probably the worst challage I've voted in. Many of the photos are far from meeting the challage.

I haven't looked over the entries yet, but I'm sure someone did some wordplay with a drill up against their skull. ;)

I was thinking the same thing. I've only voted on a little over half of the entries so far, but there were quite a few that really didn't have any connection to the challenge topic IMO.

I don't believe I've seen one of those. However, there may be several of us in that position as we watch the update button take away our decimal points... =o

In every challenge there are entries that I find boring, but in this one I think there's too many. Yes, I do agree that we all find different things boring, but a lot of people seems to think that there are many meaningless entries. There are ones that surely shine above the rest, but I have not thought of them as great. I am someone who didn't even attempt for the challenge so I am not criticising. Maybe it's the nature of the challenge. I would not know how it's like if I hadn't tried. Maybe some people think that they can do better. I don't, because I don't know.
I am actually happy to see that some people tried. It doesn't make the images any better in anyone's opinion, but still, I didn't even try.

**probably not the right thread.

You and I must have voted on the same half. A disproportionate number of my votes so far are 4's and a few lower than that.

Duplicating my post in another thread.

I have always wanted to coin a word. Now's my chance.

You all know the word onomatopoeia meaning a word that sounds like it's meaning. Examples: Buzz, moan, crack.

How about a photo that looks like its DPC Challenge? If the challenge was "Exciting," the photo would be exciting to look at. More to the point, if the the challenge was "Bored," the photos would be boring to look at. I suggest that is exactly what's happening in the "Bored" challenge. Although there are some good counter examples ... exceptions that prove the rule.

And now I hereby coin the new word photomatopoeia to describe the phenomenon.

Well, then....
Repeating my reply:

Yes! Great coinage! I'm trying to work it into a sentence....give me some moments.

(Meanwhile, why doesn't "onomatopoeia" sound like what it means?)"
