I don't know how many dozens of packages I've recieved using Fed-Ex. Never had a problem. Now the one time I decide to go with someone other than B&H, I'm getting hassles. SUPPOSEDLY, my camera was shipped on April 1. With overnight, it should have been here yesterday. Two days now and still now sign and from Ritz, no clue as to what's going on. I noticed that just about right after I placed my order, they showed the D100 as being out of stock. Am I that lucky to get one of the last few? My luck isn't that good. Does Ritz just string you along like this when they're out of stock, then all of a sudden "find" your package when they get restocked? Not getting a tracking number just raises more suspicions. I've never dealt with a company that didn't issue a tracking number as usual practice.

Ritz just wants your money, not your happiness. I don't know where your from but you need to find the best camera place. If you like this place called B&H stick with them.

Every FedEx shipment has a tracking number and can be tracked online quite easily. If Ritz and/or FedEx does not have a tracking number for you, then I would assume NO PACKAGE! What a bummer, sorry to hear you having a bad time with this.

I've heard that Ritz will often "not bother" to let you know that your order is out of stock until you contact them.

I hate to say this, but Ritz had the local in-store monopoly on cameras when I started taking photography seriously and buying equipment, and I very quickly discovered B&H and have ordered EVERYTHING either from them or other trustworthy NYC camera stores.

If I were you I'd get on the horn and make them at least reimburse your shipping (if you had to pay one). Let us know how long it takes for you to get the camera, okay?

I work for Ritz, my company got bought by them about 2 years ago. If you don't have a tracking number there is no package. They hate to admit they are out of stock of anything. Since the price drop on the D100 stock has dried up FAST. Same with all the other place I have checked. If I have to order ANYTHING I go through B&H I know I can trust them, they let you know current stock status on everything up front, wish I could say the same for Ritz.

Check your credit card statement (most are on-line)...I think it is illegal to submit the charge until the item has actually shipped.

Hi guys,
Well from "their policy" they do have the tracking number, BUT "their policy" is they will not give it to customers. To me, especially in a situation where the supposed package is lost, seems very odd, they would not accommodate a customer on their request for the tracking number, so they could talk to Fedex themselves. I would have ordered from B&H, I usually do with everything. But as Corey said, most, including B&H showed they were out of stock.

You can "track" the shippment on Ritz's site. But, for me, I'd feel much better to talk to someone at Fedex myself. Instead I call someone from Ritz, they call Fedex. Fedex calls them back, then they call me back.

So really it's not so much that the package got lost apparently, (though that totally sucks), I mean I've had it happen before with UPS on something I shipped, I can understand. It's the fact that in a situation like this, they (Ritz), can't put aside their dumb "policies" to help a customer out.

To me that shows that they never shipped it.

Update-
Well they actually did ship it. Surprisingly they finally broke down and gave me the tracking number. Fedex has now had 2/3 days to find this package. So I'm going to contact Ritz and have them file a claim. If it hasn't been found in a couple days it's not going to be. And seeing that Ritz is just freshly out of stock, along with just about any reputable company, that means it'll be another month at least until I can get the camera, no matter which way I try to go. I have lenses, CF cards, software, battery pack grip, warranty, hmm what's missing here? Geez, sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

I am glad you got some information on it. Just to check I called our warehouse yesterday, and we are officially out of stock of them. Estimated time for repenishment is 2-3 weeks. I also had a salesperson from another store pick up our last one at our store about 4 days ago before this thread started. He sold it to someone at Nationl Geographic. Good luck with yours, hope you are shooting soon.

Update:

Well Fedex has something that's basically a "lost and found". They supposedly had a Nikon Camera that fit the description. But the guy from Ritz decided not to chance it. So he issued a refund to me today.

It's too bad Ritz doesn't have a bunch of employees like James Insco. Given Ritz's weird and somewhat absurd policies, he went above and beyond. I would keep my order with them, but there's too many things I don't care for about them. Besides the tracking number thing, Ritz doesn't bother to keep the erial number of cameras on file. Like in this case, if they had the serial number, we would have known for sure if Fedex did indeed have the camera. But they don't. So hopefully I can look around and have a camera sometime next week. Thanks for listening.

In the late 80's I travelled all over Europe and the Carribean, compliments of the US Navy (sumbarines).
I shot rolls and rolls and rolls of film on every trip. I always took my film to Ritz in Virginia Beach.
They were always friendly, they knew me by name, they always checked my prints and reprinted any that were off color or too light/dark --- before I came in and requested it.
They also gave me the not so perfect prints for free, just in case I wanted to do something with them. They had several of my shots enlarged to poster size at their cost and displayed them in their store.
I bought all of my equipment there as well. They weren't always the cheapest, but they always had what I needed, and they always had knowledgable staff to help me. I could not have asked for a better camera/photography store. They even had medium format gear that they let me look at, as long as I promised not to slobber on it.
I moved to Colorado Springs in 1995, and no Ritz Camera... I was bummed. They built one, though, two years later just on eblock from my house!!! I was super excited.... until I went there once or twice.
I got poor quality prints, and they got huffy if I asked them to reprint one or two. Based upon old memories, I tried going back many times. After six months of regular visits and lots of money spent, they had no idea if I were a first time customer, or if I worked there part-time!!! They were clueless and they didn't seem to care that they were clueless (after I told them so).

After great experiences in Virginia and nothing but horrible experiences in Colorado, I have sworn off of Ritz camera.
I have digital images printed on line at Adorama.com and I have film processed at (believe it or not) Walgreens. They do a better job than Ritz was doing and for half the cost.

It makes me sad, but Ritz Camera will never get any of my money again.

Wow, I must have a little luck left afterall. I got my refund from Ritz last night. The other day I called a local shop, they said they were out of stock. So I called again this morning to see when they would expect another shipment. The guy tells me they just had the last one in their warehouse brought over this morning. Needless to say I told him to hold it for me, so 30 mins later I finally got my camera. Besides B&H, I think I found a new place to shop. Their prices on almost everything are close to what any respectable online shop is selling. They're also the only local shop I've walked into that wasn't staffed with elitists.

I normally don't like to resurrect threads, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I read this thread the day after ordering lights from Ritz, and my experience has been almost identical. On the site, it was showing every thing in stock, after ordering it was showing the lights as in stock, and the umbrellas in reserve. ??????? The best we can track down, is that the lights and ONE umbrella was shipped yesterday, but they can't seem to figure out what happened to the second one.

And, yes, I was going ot order from B&H, but I needed them next week and their and Adorama's shipping departments are closed from about Wednesday (4/16) to next Wed. or Thursday. :-(
