I can't believe American television is about to ruin another superb British Comedy. Hey anyone reading this, go buy the original on DVD. Its worth the money, and I'm sure Steve Carrell will be funny, but he is no Ricky Gervais. Damn. So many Brit coms end up redone in American television and get completely ruined. Is nothing sacred? You know what bums me out is that these great comedies (The Originals) never make it past BBC America or PBS.

What's next Allo'Allo'? Black Books? Ab Fab? Or will Corporate America try to ruin Dr. Who for a second time? Uggghhhhhh.

i thought ab fab was horrible. british comedy is not the same as american comedy.

I loved The Office! Ricky Gervais is not too upset about the american remake though, he said at least there's no canned laughter in it... Must have got paid big bucks for the rights as well! Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the original, it got very good reviews in the states, didn't it? Shame it wasn't shown on the big networks...

I saw an interview with Gervais a couple of weeks ago and he was quite complementary about the US version.

Having said that, this is Gervais and if you take anything he says seriously ... :D

An American 'Allo 'Allo would be interesting to see for sure!

Sure Gervais is happy. He's making big loot. Of course he is going to promote the hell out of it. I'm just bummed because it won't be the same and so many American comedies were Brit-Com rip-offs that were not nearly as good as the original.

WHA?! You're crazy...lol....I loved British comedies esp. Absolutely Fabulous. And I have to whole heartedly agree with the original post, judging by the trailers for the American version of The Office it can't even compare. Me and my old roomies had the British DVDs and man, hours and hours of hilarity! Highly recommended.

Don't fix what ain't broken.

There's no way the unique character of The Office can be recreated, much less improved. They obviously didn't learn anything from the disaster called "Coupling." I don't know why they don't just air the originals, the same way American shows are aired in Great Britain.

I've seen the first episode of the American version floating around the internet, and I own both UK series DVDs. I definately prefer the subtleties of the UK version, but the USA version is much better than I thought it would be. It's not all that bad really.

I'm half way familiar with this new show but never heard of the original. It must have been great if it's being hijacked by the networks.

Steve Carell(sp?)is a very funny guy. I really liked his work and writing on The Daily Show. Pretty funny in Bruce Almightly(Jim Carrey), too.

A ("based" on a true story) comedy on the US resistance to the German attempt to conquer America. Followed by a ("based" on a true story) film on the US victory in the 1966 world cup...

Hollywood likes re-writing lots of things, not least history...! At least they have offices in the US (I think). I understand that there are plans to show the US version on BBC3 later this year.

Wait until you guys see "Little Britain", up there with the office.

Gervais next project "Extras" sounds pretty interesting, he`s just turned down a £5 million pounds golden handcuffs with the BBC so he can keep artistic licence.

He's brilliant. A brilliant writer, director, actor - the works. Although watching the "making of" on the british DVDs made me want to kill him. I'm glad I don't have to be cooped up with him writing for 20hrs a day. Still funny nonetheless.

Maybe thats what it takes to be a brilliant writer. I have heard the same things about Bob Odenkirk, and "Mr. Show with Bob and David" was the most brilliant sketch comedy I have ever seen. So freaking Hilarious.

Nothing can top Gervais in a white t-shirt and hat on backward, doing his motivational speaking. OMG, I died that day. I have a "never delete" on that episode in my Tivo. If you haven't seen the original Office, it's worth checking out.

yes, the motivational episode was a classic. I love it when Tim gets up and leaves, "I can't take one more phone call about the price of laser bright copy paper!" I feel like that at work everyday. that and the scene where Gervais is hiring the new secretary. I almost piss myself every time I see that one.

Move to the UK, we have the best comedy! And our TV channels repeat everything so often, you don't need to buy the DVDs. You know it all by heart!!

I loved the original office.
I hope they don't have a laugh track.
I hope its done the same.

I don't think they could put the office on regular tv though. THere is an episode with a big pink dildo, also one with the doggy-style references and ending with "my knees hurt... no they don't"

but other than that, garrett, ricky gervais were fantastic, in fact, we just jellied someones stapler!
