Just got back from holiday in Morocco, and thought I would make my first post here with some shots I took with my new Pentax Optio S5i - I'm quite happy with them, but would love some suggestions for improving my technique (in camera and in PS).

I really enjoyed using the camera - even if it is point and click :0)

I really like the second one alot... The colors are great in it. They're all good shots but the second one really stands out to me. Hope you had a great time on you vacation. :-)

Nice shots!

I heard from a journalist that went there that people really don't want their photo taken...Did you find it difficult?

Great pics - for pic 1 I'd raise or lower the horizon for a more dramatic image. Just now the pic seems split in 2.

The second one is the best, I would have had more sky in that. Quite the contrast of colours though.

#1 is wonderful, The contrast and subtle shadows really highlight the footprints. I would have put a bit less sky.

#2 is great! The red sand and the shadows also make this very interesting, the only negative is that the horizon seems to be slanted.

#3 is a fun photo, but really it could have been taken in Nevada or Southern Cal, so it losses a bit of impact with me because of that.

#4 is pretty interesting, but the wide angle and the dark are bit overpowering.

#5 is easily the best photo, showing the local culture. The B&W works well.

#6 is an interesting photo, almost abstract in it's quality. I like the bright colors.

Overall, a great bunch of photos... what a wonderful place to visit and photograph. Thanks for sharing the photos with us:)

Wow picture five is awesome! I'm about to make a short film today about a moroccan drug smugler on 16mm film. and you have inspired me this morning thanks. you have a very nice eye. Don't let Dpc spoil the goods.

Wow, thanks for all your replies, I'll try and explain the shots a little:

#1 Shot at 7:00am on in the north east section of the Sahara Desert. Thank for the suggestions about using less sky - I'm a bit of a sucker for the ranges of blue that you get in an early morning...

#2 Shot same time as #1 but facing the other direction :-) This is my favourite photo of the holiday - I know what you mean about the horizon aguapreta, but it was nothing but big sand dunes for miles, it was quite hard to figure out the horizon!!

#3 Shot half way up the Atlas Mountains, and was kind of a joke shot - our rental car had just broken down and we laughed that it felt like we had just broken down in Wales! (In the UK) It came out way moodier than I was expecting - the sky helped alot.

#4 Shot in a deserted village on the north eastern edge of the Sahara. I was experimenting with the cameras ability to deal with dark and light at the same time, and the sky was just perfect at the time.

#5 Shot at a small village near Merzouga (South east Morocco). Funnily enough this photo makes me feel awful. We had just done a 4 hour drive through the desert in a 4x4, and got driven to this village where we were deposited in a room, and these local lads came in and started to play the drums and sing. It was very uncomfortable as even a blind man could have noticed how much these guys hated what they were doing. What was worse, for the first time in a 10 day trip, I felt like a cheap tourist...

#6 Shot at the Riad Clementine in the middle of Marrakech. This was only the 3rd or 4th shot I took on the holiday, and again was experimenting, this time with the macro.
